defalc
Sweet map! Must...have...map... YOu gonna consider a FFA/CTF Kamino map?
RichDiesal
No. I'm done with that whole damn planet after this is done. Alright, it's getting closer... still need one more beta tester (read the last map update for info on how to apply). Bot support has been added and I am approaching beta release. I do have one question... anyone experienced this before? Notice that the textures differ in the two screenshots... http://web.utk.edu/~rlanders/SPtextures.jpg http://web.utk.edu/~rlanders/MPtextures.jpg The map was compiled with MP entities... it looks fine in SP but looks awful in MP (notice the weird misplaced shadows). This is the SAME FILE in both screenshots. Anyone know what caused this? Or do I just have a screwy graphics setting in MP?
volrathxp
I vote for the screwy graphics settings volrath
RichDiesal
Beta Application for duel_kamino is closed! Final Beta Tester list will be: Epimetheus Lime-Light Volrath Gif Rolsen (tentatively - send me your MSN, ICQ, or AIM contact ) Thanks for all the other applications, but these guys were first. I will be in contact with each of you when possible... I will probably have the MP beta ready tonight, so be online (where I can contact you) around 10PM-12AM EDT so I can get in contact with you. I may or may not be around earlier, but we will start when we can. There will also be a SP beta in a few days. I will keep the same beta testers for that if they all wish to remain testers, but will be accepting new applications if any of them decide to drop out. So be on your toes. SlowbieOne
The map was compiled with MP entities... it looks fine in SP but looks awful in MP (notice the weird misplaced shadows). This is the SAME FILE in both screenshots. Anyone know what caused this? Or do I just have a screwy graphics setting in MP? I have a suggestion. I have had some weird results when I compile my maps at times, and here's what I found. Sometimes my whole map will be lit like I used FastVis when in fact I always use FullVis. Besides that I've had objects show up in game that aren't even there in Radiant. I messed around and found out that I had to close GTKRadiant, then reopen it and reload the map, THEN compile. This may or may not be your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Another thing, I've been testing my Throne Room map in SP and MP and I definately notice a difference in the graphics quality. SP just seems more crisp to me. Maybe my mind is just playing tricks on me. By the way, great work so far, looking forward to it.

RichDiesal
:: UPDATE :: KAMINO LANDING PLATFORM v0.6 (Beta) Oh yes, you heard me right. Beta. The beta testers are on the job and we are working around the clock (short clock) to make sure this map is error free. http://web.utk.edu/~rlanders/kamino014.jpg
SingledOut
1 question. can you go inside the door to a little part on the inside of the city or is it just the platform?
RichDiesal
Just the platform. This is for dueling and nothing more. An FFA map would destroy framerates.
Kagami
Heh, If only Raven would allocate a group of 8-10 people dedicated to this game, then they couLd Also be part of the community and make REAL GOOD maps of Ep2! But still i must say rich, youR mapping skIlls arE quIte cloSe to legendary.
RichDiesal
Hehe, thanks. I must give props to Sergio as he already has beta shots out at jedioutcastmaps.com! Check em out... http://www.jedioutcastmaps.com/beta.php?id=

Klorel
I know i've said it before, but just to bring it up again: custom skybox with a bit of the city behind the tower (it seems like such a lonely tower). otherwise, minus the slave-1, perfect. Hope it still rains in the level, can't wait to decapitate my brother in the rain!
Epimetheus
Those screenshots really do the map no justice whatsoever... what a hoot it is.
RichDiesal
The skybox will be worked on... I have a few suggestions from the beta team that I'm going to be screwing with for the next day or two. And no rain. I just can't get rain to work without: 1) Using a rain shader (like the rain effects in Q3, which weren't all that great in large amounts) 2) Executing a command to your console from the game... for all those interested, any time you're running a server in cheat mode, you can create rain with the command r_we rain init 1000.... you may need an "outside" shader (like with fx_rain) though I'm not sure. As is, I don't know any way to do that in MP.
SingledOut
i understand if you cant get rain but if you ever figure it be sure to rerelase the map with rain
Pedantic
The map looks very nice. So how far can you venture off of the main platform area. Are you able to fall off the edge?
Kadugol
sweet looking map my good man been hoping someone would come along and make that into a JK2 map. very sweet don't know if you're going for absolute exactness or not (which obviously would be impossible anyway) but if you are, it might be interesting to note that the weather control towers (the pilons with the yellow verticle lights on the side) are in no way symmetrical in the movie or tech guides or anything like that. i just watched the film again (no not the bloody bootleg, i wouldn't touch the thing with a ten foot pole) and its quite clear that both of them are on the left side of the landing pad (on coming out of the entrance doorway) one being slightly off the center of the side and the other being near the far edge. also the two extending arms are equally as unsymmetrical as you have them there. one arm is indeed extending from the left side, but the other isn't extending on the opposite side; rather it extends from the edge of the pad opposite from the doors. the pad is also about 20% larger in area. HOWEVER!!! i am only mentioning these things IN CASE there is any desire for techncial accuracy, which there is absolutely NO NEED for (i wont even go into how technical accuracy can ruin potentially good death star maps). so i only bring them up if that is an aim. heck! it could be a different landing pad elsewhere on the kamino clone facility. i'm sure there's probably dozens upon dozens. and we already can see that the one obi-wan lands on is a good deal different than the one jango keeps his ship. it really is a shame rain is impossible in MP. that really sucks. but thats ravens fault, or IdSoftware's, or something. i'm already sure i'll be playing countless hours fighting friends with episode 2 skins on your map, Rich. seriously. that looks frigging SO much better than i expected anyone to make of a kamino map. the force is no doubt with you... or... um.... perhaps jelly donuts? those always help me with that kind of thing keep up the great work. RichDiesal
Ahhh! Very informative. Yes, I did sacrifice a number of technical details for the sake of gameplay or simply because it wasn't feasible... That is why this is duel_kamino and not duel_platform_where_obiwan_and_jango_had_it_out. I put the two arms symmetrically opposed to each other simply because it looks better... Industrial Light and Magic can get away with unbalanced sets because they have enough graphical power to pull your attention away from it. I don't. Ergo, I did sacrifice a small number of things from the movie for the sake of gameplay or style... The platform is actually much more scaled down than even that... I'd say it's roughly half the size that it should be to be accurate to the movie, but that would have made an EXTREMELY big dueling platform... I scaled it down considerably for better fights... (I hate chasing people around a platform ). But also because of that, the platform is much better suited to No Force duels... it is extremely easy for a grip/push whore to win in this map simply because it's so small... but that is to be expected with platform-over-the-abyss sort of maps. I did take textures roughly from the final ObiWan/Jango platform (though the platform is altered a little bit because I couldn't fit all the designs on the smaller platform space - reduced the number of towers from 3 sets to 2 sets also) The reason that rain was not included in MP is because of the way that rain is created... the engine can't actually render individual rain drops, so instead it basically creates a somewhat thick screen of raindrops that follows you around.... if they included this in MP, it would mean many small patches of raindrops following around everyone and I have a feeling it just looked bad. In any case, the SP version of this will kick some serious ass, just to let you all know. I will be producing a beta of that as soon as the MP version goes to final... which should be in a day or two.

Kx_Dra_Sycdan
Your earlier shots of the map were a little unimpressive, however these new shots really make the map look aweseome, the map looks fairly exact to the scenes from the movie, great work on that. One suggestion, (I'm fairly certain someone already suggested this, but still) A blue tint to the map would make it feel more like the scenes from the movie. Regardless though, this map is looking excellent. edit/ volrathxp quit watching that ****ed up copy you got and go see the movie again in theaters and you'll see it. So....yeah, your an idiot. GET HIM RICH! volrath EDIT: There is a bluish ambience to the whole capital city of Kamino but as far as that scene with the platform goes, on the platform itself there is none when seen uplclose, only from the afar shots from what I have seen. My bad.
