Elegy
I've been toying around with the dedicated server, and I've been using Jedi Runner to set the thing up every time I start it. When I connect to my own server though (I'll open up JKII on the same machine as the server and jump right in to the game), the game is rather laggy. Is this simply because I shouldn't be playing on the same machine the server is being ran on? Or is there any commands I can use to make things a bit better for the players? I'd keep the server on a seperate machine if I could, but I don't really have much of a choice. I'd like to think that my computer is fairly decent enough for this though; 700mghz processor, 511 megs of RAM, cable modem connection.
MatrixCPA
The game itself is rather cpu intensive. Part of the problem could be that with both applications running you either starve the game or the server in terms of processing time. You might check the server console to see if you are getting a series of hitch warnings. The initial warnings during startup and map changes aren't a problem. However, if you get them in the middle of a game, it means lag for the players connected.
sinoth
I was having the same problem a few days ago. I fixed it by upping the JK2Dedicated server's thread priority to "high" instead of "normal". In Win2k, you do this by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL and selecting the task manager, and selecting the "processes" tab. There you can change the priority. Don't know about other OS's, might ask around. That fixed my problem though.
