Tyto
Ok, now we have some of the finest Star Wars minds anywhere here (ahem) so see if you can make me believe your explaination of Obi Wans line in ESB. "There you will be trained by Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed me." Now I'm pretty sure that the instruction went Yoda>Dooku>Qui Gonn>Obi Wan>Anakin So what on earth was Obi Wan on about? Was it another case of being true from a certain point of view? Tyto
matt--
Ben never said that Yoda took him as an apprentice, he said he 'instructed' him. This could refer to any number of things...maybe that whole 'one with the force' thing, or that Yoda taught him as a 'Youngling.'
chris kenobi
I'm guessing that in a way after qui gon died, between the eps1 and 2, Yoda carried on teaching/guiding Obi Wan tho he became a Jedi Knight already. It seems as though he grew up alot too between the films (not just because of the o so manly beard) So it is kinda true from a certain point of view. That's my suggestion anyway. Trahern Valley
I believe Yoda was Ben's first teacher as an initiate, before being passed on to Qui-Gonn as a padawan; and there may have been other tutors in between. On the other hand, perhaps he is being tutored by Yoda after Qui-Gonn's death; Yoda seems to be the strongest in the "living Force" which is what Ben had yet to learn about in ep1. George has yet to clarify this matter, which is why we're all wondering. He's a good 'big picture' director, but when it comes to the people, he's...can't think of a polite way to finish that sentence.
Blobbafett
I think this is going to be one of those subjects that will end up being completely unexplained.... it is quite possible that after qui gonns death, Yoda completed Obi wans training, maybe just to the smallest degree of seeing him through the jedi trials... or indeed as was mentioned before, Obi was a youngling taught initially by Yoda , much like the children in AOTC. But also, lets consider the fact that...if there really is only intended to be...a master ,... and an apprentice...., this cannot possibly lead to a large count of jedi. At some point it must be intended that the master jedi take another padawan, this would seem more logical...and would therefore make up the numbers... ....although I heard that you can find loads of them beating people up on the beaches of Australia.. bloody surfers
Chaotic~Angel
Remember in AotC that Yoda is teaching a class of young jedi, maybe thats what he means. At some point Obi-wan was in Yoda's class and was instructed under him

Vestril
Obi was simplifying for Luke. He wanted Luke to understand that Yoda was a good instructor, so he didn't say 'Yoda, the Jedi Master who intstucted me when I was young, then I was trained by master Qui Gon Jinn who was really, a very good master, but unfortunately he died fighting this Sith Lord at this Naboo thing...well I don't want to get into that. Anyway, Yoda also helped me out after that, instructing me some more and giving me advice on how to train Ana--Darth Vader, who was really a good student but...' well anyway, you get the idea... I mean, its not like he had anything better to do in that little sandy hut of his... .. no tv....no vcr.....Im sure he had a little time on his hands to explain everything!... and anyway- how do you know for sure he was "simplifying' for luke?... are YOU George Lucas???..well???..huh??huh???? only kidding!!.. no but seriously - I understand your point...its not exactly something anyone (ok ...GL) could seriously have explained ....or played out in a way that the audience would have understood at the time........ imagine...... 1977.....huh?....Naboo?!?!...sith lord Darth Maul?!?!?!....Qui Gon??!!... what the f....... get what I mean? I just think we all are lapping up over-analyzing the minutia of the whole star wars mythology...however trivial we just want everything so desperately to tie in with one another..... which is why I have to say a big shout out to micozade in one of the other threads... I totally agree with him that he fears GL has to pull far too much off to bridge the gap between episodes II and IV. but hell....all this yadda yadda'ing is good fun, while we try to figure out exactly how everything is going to be resolved for the next film.... dont you agree vestril?....whatdo you say? FunClown
Would the little kiddies with yoda in that room be able to say that they were never instructed by Yoda?
DigitalGangsta
I bet GL meant for Yoda to have been Obi-Wan's true master (ie. taught him from day one till he bacame a Jedi) and then changed the details a little over the 20 years to make a better story for Episode 1, 2 & 3. Cos I for one always though Yoda had been Obi's one and only master.
matt--
Let me clearifiy one thing: Jedi Masters can only take one padawan...at a time. When one's training is complete, the master can take another.
Divine Spirit
on starwars.com it says how yoda trains them from 5 to 10 years old which is when they become a padawan and get a new master i assume obi wan was in the little kiddie class, as shown in attack of the clones....then he went to be trained by qui gon when he was 10 something roughly like that Divine Spirit
