Question about the Seperatist movement

Ok, this question hit me when watching Episode II for the second time:

Palpatine's goal is to get voted emergency powers from the Senate. Therefore he secretly sends out his apprentice Count Dooku/Lord Tyrannus to form a seperatist movement consisting of the trade federation, the commerce guild, the banking guild etc. The Republic sees this seperatist movement as a threat against unity and votes Palpatine the emergency powers so he can take control of the clone army. This he uses to then set up his dictatorship.

So far I thought, that the seperatist movement also was betrayed by Palpatine because they thought they were actually working against him. Only Palpatine and Count Dooku knew that everything was planned by Palpatine. Everyone can follow me?

When watching Episode II for the second time, I realised, that when the attack of the clone army begun, Count Dooku takes the plans of the Death Star, telling his "allies" that he'll take them with him "to Coruscant to his master" since they "will be much safer there".

- Now, does that mean the Seperatists knew about Palpatine in the first place? Were they cooperating with him, knowing what he is planning?

-->(Don't think so, Palpatine wouldn't tell them that much, would be too risky)

- Or did they think they were working for Darth Sidious, not knowing that Sidious and Palpatine are the same person?

-->(That wouldn't make sense because the Vice roy of the trade federation has been betrayed by Sideous (Ep1) and wouldn't cooperate with him again (as Dooku says somewhere in Ep2)).

- Did they only know, Dooku has "some master" but they didn't care who this is

-->(very unlikely, they would want to know for whom they work when they become guilty of treachery).

Please help me to clarify this issue.

The last choice. Dooku is their leader, he's the guy they've all rallied behind, and they all have their own secrets anyway. Just so long as they get their money and their way, why should they care about Dooku's "master"?

And for those who do care, there's always a little Jedi mind tricking to be had...or perhaps even a bit of behind the scenes "lightsaber diplomacy" ;)
