Aerys
Have you got it working consistently? What did you have to set? I'd imagine it'd have to be a no-force game to be fair to the Mercenaries, no?
MatrixCPA
From what Raven told me, you need to set the value in the command line (+set g_jedivmerc 1). As far as no-force, I'd think that the Jedi would need at least some of the force powers to compensate for their lack of range. At least with saber throw they have some way to do ranged damage. Without force powers, specifically saber defense, I don't think the Jedi would be able to block incoming fire either. I've been considering putting up a JvM server for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. I suppose I should give it a whirl.
KnightHawk420
I had one working. I would not agree with giving no force to jedi's. Without the force the jedi's would be cannon fodder. With the force, it takes about 2 mercs to equal a skilled a jedi. Personally I think as it exists, this mod would really never work out. It has so much potential, but to really make it good I think its going to take a bit more additional work on the developer side. Also the gametype the server will report as, will be a server type not easily found by clients. So at this point I would consider running a jvm server as a oddity more than something you can use mainstream. I had a coupel good games on it, but it's just too hard to get people. Jasco Smlee
Is it possible to limit teams in this mode to be either jedi or merc. or do both types of player co-exist on the same team?
MatrixCPA
I thought about that too, but haven't tried it out to discover that yet. I would hope that the teams are separated by type. Otherwise, it wouldn't be as much fun.
Elegy
I tried playing today on someone's Jedi-v-Merc server. He disabled all the main powers like lightning, grip, etc. Pretty much all the was available was Jump, Push, Pull, Speed, and all the saber abilities. The game was pretty well balanced, I played both as a Jedi and as a Merc on there and was able to whoop some ass on both sides. The only real trouble I ran into was the pull/backstab spammers. If you think it's hard to avoid them when you're equipped with the force powers, just try to do it when you're a merc and have no chance in hell of blocking that. Unfortunately the game doesn't seem to divide the teams according to being jedi or merc. You just kinda pick a color and pick your jedi/merc status. It was kinda interesting to see some of the tactics on here though. I was in the deathstar map and there was a room full of us jedi duking it out. Up above behind the window was a merc sniping us all. Got him a few times with saber throw and decided to run up there to saber him. He had a Jedi buddy guarding him by the doorway in case we decided to try and get close to him. All in all, the game really isn't jedi-vs-merc since both kinds of players are on both teams. BUT, if you wanna survive efficiently, it might require a bit of teamwork between a jedi and a merc.
MatrixCPA
Was it FFA or Team FFA?
Elegy
It was team FFA. The menu on start is still somewhat glitchy. It had me pick my team apon connecting in that menu where you pick your skin, force powers, etc. Overlayed beneath the team choices was the option to be jedi or merc and I had a hard time clicking it. I gave up and just picked my team deciding to take whatever it gave me, be it merc or jedi. But once you're in the game and you go back to edit your player stuff the team thing that was overlayed above it is gone and you have a much easier time picking jedi or merc. Once you die, your changes take effect and you'll finally be what you picked. So it's still kinda buggy, but once you get started in the game it works fine. Kinda leads me to believe that since the jedi/merc option is exactly in the same spot as the team choices are, raven had intended to divide the teams up and have jedi on one side, merc on the other but they got lazy in finishing it. Aerys
Don't forget they don't officially support this option.
Awol
Elegy: Sounds like you were playing on my server (though I could be wrong) I am stilling trying to find the balance on force powers for it but hopefully someone will make a mod that would truely Jedi vs Merc instead on a big mix on both teams and also allow us server admin set the max limit on force levels for the powers (would stop spammer while still give some decent powers to everyone) Awol
