QuietSith
Are you tired of never seeing games that show off it's amazing abilities? We're not quite there yet, but here's a game I really enjoyed via demo and demo multiplayer - ordering it soon. The attention to detail are quite amazing. http://www.novalogic.com/games/Comanche4/body_index.html Basically it's a helicopter game with amazing graphics and it plays like an FPS: Notice the extreme attention to detail: http://www.novalogic.com/trailer2_c4.htm What's neat over all terrain your helicopter has an effect on the environment - water ripples, trees move.. and the close detail of troops on the ground you can get into fights with. With stuff like this already out there - it really makes me wonder why dev teams bother with the Quake 3 engine.

QuietSith
No problem. Be sure to remap your controls. Notice the attention to detail .. it's pretty amazing. I believe there are two different demo's with different missions. Try and get the SP demo with the water and surround areas. Anyhow - just notice the extreme attention to detail and how easy it is to fly around - via FPS style. I'm just really impressed and totally missed this game's launch. If you have a friend who has it.. you can play a bit of DM MP online - the full version also has coop. I wish more games had coop - that's often the best MP style. QuietSith
Yep it's out. I'm surprised I never heard about it .. probably because I thought it was just another helicopter simulation. But it's almost more isn't it? It's like an FPS with extreme detail but you can fly - yah? I'm gonna order mine from EB Games: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/product.asp?pf_id=168693&mscssid=66J8RL52A1069PH1A2XGHEAWKQV00E1F&ref=1&PromoCode=&site=&siteID= For $20 you can't beat that price. "Multiplayer Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Coop missions are available to play on a LAN connection or over the Internet via Novalogic's Novaworld. My overall experience with Novaworld was positive for the most part. The occasional lag can make downing your opponent a difficult task. On a few occasions, I counted 6 successive stinger hits with no results. Just as in single play, the stinger missile dominates the battlefield although you may want to switch to guns when fighting at very close range. The Comanche uses stealth and terrain masking, so for the most part, you will want to fly low and below radar. Visit the FARPS (Forward Arming and Refueling Point) if you need to rearm and repair." http://www.gamezilla.com/review.aspx?review=7009 And you can build your own missions: "Level Editor The mission editor is a new and welcome feature to the Comanche series. I toyed around with it and created a test mission. The interface is easy to use and most of the insertable objects are clearly labeled and previewable. Keep your eye on the clock: the investment of time required to make a quality level could be a day or longer. The irony is that since the game has been pushed so far in the arcade direction, the chances of an enthusiastic level building community springing up are doubtful. Nevertheless, the mission builder is much appreciated and will give fans a chance to carry their Comanche 4 experience a step further if they wish." http://www.gamezilla.com/review.aspx?review=7009 Read the rest for the complete review... Here's an interview with the dev guy: "Thrustmaster - Tell us about the multiplayer features on Novaworld. Will we be able to fly coop missions against the enemy as well as head to head? Is it possible we might see an adversary helicopter modeled later, like the Hokum? Novaworld, NovaLogic’s Internet multiplayer gaming network, has become a key aspect of the NovaLogic experience. In almost four years, over 175 million games have been played on the service, providing gamers with the most intense large-scale gaming experience on the net. We are designing a number of multi-player only maps. As well as the standard ‘deathmatch’ style gameplay, we will also be adding a number of team-orientated games. Co-op will also be available in multiplayer. Having teams of human players face off against the AI has been a frequent request from the Comanche community, and one we plan to support." http://us.thrustmaster.com/news/read.php3?newsid=316&skin=Hotas This place has a Comanche 4 forum: http://www.randomcoops.com/html/menu.html So yah, it's not a super popular game like JK2, but you can still have people join MP mid-game (makes a large difference) and it's like the Crimson Skies game seen - small, tight, and love the game. QuietSith
This is the demo that truly shows off the graphics - it's the SP only demo - there is one that is MP as well: ftp://ftp.novalogic.com/pub/demos/c4demoo.exe
Pedantic
Ugh, I hate that game. It's too annoyingly frustrating to be any fun.
QuietSith
Why do you say that?
Pedantic
I try to maneuver with that dang helicopter, and my shots land everywhere but where I want them to go. It would be nice to have a little bit of pitch control. The graphics are cool, but the controls are very frustrating. And the altitude control was messed up, because it never worked when I wanted it to.
QuietSith
You can lock your mouse view to your cockpit on and off. The key to the game is play it like you do JK2. Strafe keys, mouse look, crouch and jump (altitude) and there are key binds for certain levels of altitutude. I think the best way to play this game is picture it like even though you're in a helicopter it's an FPS that flies. Like for me crouch and jump are C and space .. so for Comanche I make up and down .. space = up, c = down. For FPS's I have the following: E or Right Mouse button = forward W = next weapon S = strafe left d = backward f = strafe right space = jump c = crouch So for Comanche 4 it's the same with minor differences: E = forward W = next weapon S = strafe left d = backward f = strafe right space = up c = down g = gear But anyhow.. treat it like an FPS just like JK2. See if that helps. Also, pay attention to your first, third person, etc. viewpoints - the defaults are F1 - F5. Changing them depending on the situation helps - just like in JK2.
