I was wondering how Anakin can have a New York accent in Ep2 which has apparantly changed by episode 4 to a british one as Darth Vader?! (it cant be the mask as he still has one in ROTJ when it is removed)

Hayden Christensen, Anakin in Epsiode II, is Canadian.

In Episode IV, James Earl Jones, who is American, was the voice of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. In Episode VI, it was James Earl Jones' voice, until Luke removed his mask, then the actor you saw, who spoke, was the late Sebastian Shaw, who is from the United Kingdom.:D

The actor in the suit for all 3 films(except the part in ROTJ I mentioned above) was British bodybuilder David Prowse.:D

Vestril's right once again... And Christensen has kind of a bland "teenager" non-accent type of accent... Anyone who knows American teenagers will probably know what I'm talking about... or at least teenagers from larger towns or more wealthy families... And actually, that one guy is kinda right about the British accent... if you're surrounded by em, ya start to talk like em.

It's a light brittish accent, not very solid and distinct (I grew up around brits, I know a variety of the accents, this was very light). I think you're mistaking the formality of his sentence structure for a heavy english accent. It's there, but to a degree that's easily acountable for many years surrounded by people with English accents...

It was on the official site ages ago that mostly British actors were cast as the bad guys on purpose (Captain Needa, Admiral Ozzel, Admiral Piett, Moff Jerjerrod, Grand Moff Tarkin, Count Dooku) because it was thought that a British accent "might" bring more menace to the character. Some say it worked, some don't.

It is also no coincidence that most of the protagonists of these films are Americans/Canadians.

FYI, when ep4 was originally filmed, David Prowse (Darth Vader) spoke all his own lines. James Earl Jones was only brought in because David Prowse has a Birmingham accent and it didn't sound right for a Dark Lord of the Sith. Pretty good decision IMO.

Ray Park also spoke all his lines in ep1 and his lines were redubbed because of his cockney accent.
