reserved slots

i was just wondering if there are any reserved slots available, i think there are, i just dunno how to get em. i need them to reserve 2 spots, one for myself, and one for a friend. is there a way to reserve the sltos by ip, name, etc.

You cannot reserver slots by ip or name. You need to use a password. The following items need to be in your server config:

 

seta sv_privateClients "2"

seta sv_privatePassword "blarg"

 

You would, of course, change blarg to whatever password you want to use. Then, when you get into the server list in-game to join, hit the "password" button, type in the pass you've choosen, then hit "OK" and then "Join". You will join the server using one of the private spots....assuming one is open.

 

Alternatively, you can drop down the console and type /password blarg then /connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (fill in your server ip)

My server.cfg file contains both those lines, yet I cant connect (error: invalid password) when using the private password. I'm using the /password & /connect method in the console. Is there anything else I should be doing?

On an off chance, do you also have the server passworded in general? seta g_password "blarg" or such? If so, then you can't use the private slots--they're only available for public servers. Another thing to remember is that when you make the changes to the config you need to restart the server application. Give those a whirl.
