Need help on creating slanted side around a circular platform.

I am trying to create a circular platform with a slanted side, like the one in the kamino map and in the fan-film Duality (it's actually a Duality map:D ). I can't think of any way do this. I can do it for straight platforms with the clip tool, but not on a round platform. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

go to curves>insert, then select one of the options,

add colums

insert columns

add rows

insert rows

I think that's how it is (don't feel like loading up radiant right now to doulbe check)

just don't go crazy putting in too many, it'll get too confusing. use only what you need, keep it simple.

you can also delete all of the above to remove patch points

And then there's the matrix, where you can re-disperse patch points, just make sure you save your map before you do some of this, radiant likes to crash when dealing with patches.

Just read your menu options

Actually, the method I said to use before wasn't really the best way.

you want this right?

make your round platform, i'm assuming you already know how to do that.

But for the slope part, use bevels.

then really it's just a matter of dragging the vertices to get the shape you need.

I don't know how to tell you to do except to use the different views in radiant and decrease the grid size if you have to, to get things to line up right.

Maybe Rich can explaing this better, he's the one that made that Kamino map.

Ahh... yes, it's a bit complicated to explain, but I'll try to make it clear for you.

First of all, get rid of the preconcept that you need to build the platform and then surround it with the curve. You might as well scrap any platform you already have.

Also, get rid of the preconcept that you're going to build the whole platform. That's just not the best way to do it.

Instead, you need to build the platform by fourths.

Make a simple bevel and turn it on its side (the edge of your platform). Size it how you want it. Then add a caps to it. Delete the bottom cap so that you are only left with the top cap.

Then in a side view, select the entire bottom row of vertices and drag it 1 grid unit in any direction.

Then flip to the top view and you'll see all of those vertices slightly eschew from all the others. Drag each one out a bit (make sure you drag each one out equally) that it creates a curve.

After you have that fourth of the platform exaclty how you want it, duplicate the entire thing (all curves and the surface cap) and copy/rotate it to be the other three sections.

Ok when I add a end cap to the bevel, it turns into a square. I'm sorry if I sound stupid but I have never tried to do this before. Also, when you say to turn the bevel on it's side, which way do I turn it? I feel really stupid asking this but I'm new to curves and have had little experience with vertices on GTKRadient.

I just played your Kamino map, and I think that what I am thinking of is slightly different than what you used. The one I am trying to make can be seen here , here , and here . You can see how the border around the platform rises up and slants. Hope these pics can help;)

Hmm... I hate to say this, but learn how curves work. :p Take the Curves tutorial on my website (just make all the examples - trust me, you'll get a better feel for curves in general) and then experiment.

After you go through that, you should have a better idea about how to tackle what you're trying to tackle.
