Ok, Gateway has begun a multiplayer challenge for jedi outcast. If you want to know the specifications about the setup go their site at http://www.gateway.com/challenge My question is this, what are the best methods to get fast times in killing 12 of the bots before the computer can kill 12? Someone out in California was able to do it in 48 seconds. If that time stays, then they are the grandprize winner. I want to know how to beat that, or at least possible ways in getting times such as that.

Whats your best time?

mines 1:41 sec=c\

bout pissed me off when i learned you cant adjust the controls to your liking

anyways best of luck

and ill have no answers for you

im still searching for how they got times so fast

i think they just got extremely lucky and had maybe 6 or 7 bots all in the same place and used the repeater to take em all out but who knows.....could be using some tactic we never thought of till its too late=( but im gonna be trying my damndest to find out

Hey so far my best time is 1:33 I've gotten it twice, yeah its basically luck, all the bots have to be right in front of you and you have to have the fastest shooting gun (repeater), but i'm going tomorrow and probably the rest of the week, so best of luck to you.

As of yesterday morning I was #49 in my age group with a time of 1:36...as of this morning I'm something like 101. I have been practicing my @ss of and the best I have gotten is 1:15 which MIGHT get me 25th.

Problem is I can't do it consistently. AND to stay in the top 25 I'm thinking I need something a lot closer to :59 sec.

There has to be a tactic that I have not discovered. I know there is a degree of luck and skill as well, but there has to be something I'm not doing to save off 5 or 10 seconds.

I'll share a tactic in hopes someone better than me will share as well. I dropped almost 25 seconds using FORCE SPEED (helps get through the dead spots where there are no guys). I never go over 2 min now, but nowhere near under 1 min.

Weapons of choice: repeater gun and e11

I'm currently sitting at 56th with a time of 1:24 (I'm in the 25+ bracket) . My first two rounds on Saturday I was 3-something and 2:02. First round today 1:59, then the 1:24.

I am slowly catching on to what needs to be done in order to get a better time.

But I do wonder if there is something basic I am missing that would help shave off 10 or 15 seconds off immediately. All those people under 1:10 aren't just doing it by luck. I think everyone knows or should know which force power you need at what level and what you can jettison, although I won't spill it here because it is so key.

In particular I believe that you can use the blaster to pick off the random guy or two, but you probably save your rockets, mines, detonation charges and other area-damage weapons and there are two or three places where you can get 5 or 6 kills with just one or two well-placed rockets in 3 seconds or so. Do that twice and you're probably out in 1 minute, which I believe is probably going to be about the time you need to get to in the 25th place or better by June 30 to get in on the prizes for either bracket.

The people who are getting 1-minute times probably know exactly where to go . . . which locations are bottlenecks for bots where you can score multiple kills quick. Maybe re-run the same map in simulation as a spectator and take notes? I haven't done that yet, and I don't know how well it would work since everything happens differently each time.

I despair each time I open up into an area and there are only 1 or 2 guys there. There is no way to win at that pace.

So for example, you always spawn in the same area with it looks like about 3 bots. You go immediately for weapons, but do you kill them because they are close? Killing ones and twos takes more time, but they are right there. Or do you head right for the middle where you figure you might run into a group of 5 and where you might be more likely to get kills faster. I know which tactic I used Saturday and today, and I know I'll probably try the other way tomorrow or the next time I can go in.

Probably the luck comes in how many single guys you can pick off on the fly in the corridors when you run into them in between the groups of 3-5 bots. And like I said, the 1-minute people know right where to go to get the big groups, or else so many people are playing that those lucky ones are getting a lot more lucky than I would think possible.

I also think you'll get a lot of responses to this thread on July 1 :)

Hey everybody thanks for giving me so many replies to my thread! Well today I was able to get my fastest time so far, 1:10, I was like 63 in my division. Yeah I figured out the areas you need to go to and where to go for the most bots but it is still mainly luck. And the fact that Gateway picked that stupid ass Rebel skin along with the slow running speed just sucks. It is entirely not fair, I mean come on, the game revolves around Kyle so don't you think that we should be able to play as the main character? Also, it might just be me but I swear that the computer is really good at blocking your blaster shots, especially the Chiss bot and the Shadowtrooper bot. If people don't know I'll let them in on a secret, for your force powers I suggest using the most speed and barely using your lightsaber. You don't want to use it at all because since it is a melee weapon it slows your time down considerably. Well I gotta practice for tomorrow, cause the current winner has 42 seconds!!

Well I got my fastest time (1:29) so far today, but it's still not in the top 25. Actually this morning I was 101 in the 25+ and by end of day with my new fast time I was still 101 :-(

I managed 1:15 last night at home, but I'm having problems doing it again.

I'm not shooting for the #1 spot at this point, just some where in the top 25. I think by end of the week the slowest time will be 1:01 - 1:05!

Well time to go find the choke points in the map and hope I can shave off another 29 seconds...YIKES!!!!

PS. knyte - trust me she faked it for you so you wouldn't feel so bad about the fact that you climaxed in 1/2 that time. :p

Hey Darth, you know how you said you got 1:15 at home? How were you able to view the seconds, did you use a different clock or is there an option in the game that literally breaks it down, cause I'd like to know what I get, cause I'm good enough to get in the 1 minute range. Thanks!

You can view your times by enabling console in the options menu, then ingame press shift + ~ and in the console type, "cg_drawtimer 1" then your timer appears in the top right of the screen, take a quick peek at it just as you get your 12th kill cause it will disappear as the overall standings screen appears. I am also in the gateway challenge and my best time is 1:02, not at the store but at home, I can get about 1:30 on an average but anything under that is pure luck for me. My strategy thus far is to use force speed immediately, take a hard left and grab the blaster. I kill the guy coming down the stairs and head for the rocket launcher. Then I continue down that hall enroute towards the sentry gun. Plant it at the hall junction ahead and to the right. I take a left and go after the next rocket launcher site, (hopefully the ammo is there) and enter the next main room. There are usually lots of bots here but they seem to withstand most of my rocket hits and the kills just don't seem to come fast enough. I've tried variations of this strategy and have yielded WORSE times. I'm stumped. Anyone willing to share some ideas?

I have also encountered those same problems with the average times of 1:20 - 1:30. I have gotten below a minute a couple times but anything below that is pure luck hoping that the bots will be totally clumped up together. When you spawn in red, it takes you exactly 24 seconds to go up through the main entrance and enter the main door at blue. That means that idiot who ranked out at 43 SECONDS!! killed 12 bots in less than 20 seconds. COME ON! I mean that is pure luck, it is in somepart skill with good accuracy and all and a little bit of strategy, but for the most part you just have to hope that "the Force is with you"......

I've just been using my stopwatch...I hit it as it says "begin" and hit it agian when the 12th kill comes up. It has to be accurate to + or - 1 sec. :-)

I agree there is a lot of luck on the location of the bots. But there is a tactic...no one who knows it is sharing, and I'm not sure why since the luck factor plays such a huge roll.

Force speed is a must...so that only leaves lightside powers. Might have something to do with mind trick. Also the choke points and the turret are helpful.

I know you don't ever want to get caught doing this ---> :lsduel:

The repeater, the e-11 and I'm starting to use detpacks in large duel groups...if I can keep chiping way at my official time I might be able to make 25th....I'm in striking distance. I'm not hoping to get 42 seconds...unless I unlock the secret and get really lucky!

Seriously I am trying to get down to 1:00 - 1:05. I will be thrilled if I can do that.

Best of luck to all! So far it's been a lot of fun.

I usually start out in the Box thats red and has 2 doors in the corner with all the pillers what i do is i force speed instantly run to the opposing wall hopefully before the bots get the blaster rifle then i run through the door down the hall to get the repeater and the ammo and then out into the other main area i can doo all this in like 20 secondsthe highest ive gotten is 9 bots in 1 minsomebody tell me a better stratigybecause thisone isnt working.

Hey everyone, yeah Jake I use that same method, in the beginning when you start out, if you are able to kill the bot that immediately runs at you that is a plus, also if you are able to kill 1 of the 2 bots that always duel with lightsabers, then it is even better. You dont want to just chase like 1 bot because it adds even more time. I played today and my best time is still 1:10, I really dont know how anyone can get 42 seconds. If anyone knows how to get under a minute in the fastest time please let me know. Also I figure that for force powers you want to have: Speed, Heal or Protect, no saber, and you dont really need jump. The stupid Gateway ppl set the game up with only 10 force points which really screws you over, so if anyone else has ideas let us all know!

What are you talking about?! What Bot that runs at you when you start? I set up an FFA game, using their config settings and I always spawn in a different spot after I do a reset or after 12 kills.

How do I get it so I always spawn in the same spot?

When I usually play I begin in the corner of this one area. There is always either a swamptrooper, rebel, or some other bot that charges me from the opposite corner. I immediately take him out, and then on the direct left of his corner there are 2 bots that are fighting with lightsabers. If you have time you may be able to kill one of them. After that get the E-11 blaster, run through the doors with force speed, then run up to where the Imperial Repeater blaster is, after you get it turn to the first set of doors. this is the area where the turret gun is, more times than not, theyre are at least 6-8 bots there. kill as many as you can and proceed to the next area! This is at least the scenario that happens to me when I play it at home and at the store.

Great, yesterday it was 1:01 seconds to beat, and now it's 56 seconds just to get #25. This sure does suck.

Well, after studying and analyzing bot battles as a spectator, I've come to the conclusions that (A) this tournament is a freaking jackpot machine, since you need to have like 7-10 bots grouped up in the same spot, which happens once every what twelth-fifteenth battle. And then, (B) regardless of what process you follow, one out of two possibilities may happen: (1) a lightsaber-wielding bot may deflect your blaster rays back at you, ruining your time, and (2) every once in a while, while you take aim, there is that occassional lightsaber-wielding bastard of a bot just waiting to slice you in the back. Unfortunately, number 1 happens way too much in my practice runs.

Oh, and © this tournament is biased against participants with way older computers who can't run 12 opponents on a MP map smoothly (PIII 500mhz here, and I lag horribly whenever some LS-wielding bot spins around me). In conclusion, I've decided to put less emphasis on practicing at home/pulling my hair out, and instead to try to win the favor of Lady Luck (of course, with a best time of !:55, I don't think I'm gonna get her favor anytime soon  )

Regardless, take caution of A and B (especially B), make sure your aim counts, make sure you run to your next destination regardless of what bot you're trying to kill, and most of all, make sure when you hit your 11th kill that your favorite weapon of choice does not suddenly run out of ammo. Besides that, my best time at home is 1:24. So much for winning top prize...

OK so far my best time is 1:45. I've been practicing at home and i cant seem to kill the bot that charges me and it always seems to delay me enough to keep me from getting the blaster. (stupid little...)

I was talking to the gateway guy today and he said that the people with like 42 seconds figured out what bot is weak against what gun or he has some kick ass stratigy or a comination of boath. well best of luck to us all and may the force be with us (just had to say it):)
