When I am in a dedicated server that my friend set up, how can I do things such as change the map, etc.

First, you need to have setup an rcon password on the server. Using the rcon password, you can change the maps, etc. The commands would look like so:

 

/rcon rconpass map mapname

MatrixCPA just told you what to put in your .cfg file. To get to the rcon from the game type:

 

/rconaddress your-server's-address

/rconpassword your-rcon-password

 

You then run commands as the remote console by beginning every command with rcon. ex:

 

/rcon clientkick 2

/rcon map ffa_bespin

To set up an rcon password you need to have a line similar to the following in your server config:

 

seta rconpassword "blarg"

 

Then, you'd just use blarg wherever the rconpass is mentioned above.
