It will never be as good as the first trilogy

Quite simply I think Lucas would have had to have Shakespeare like force powers to make this trilogy anywhere close to the original. Don't get me wrong, I like AOTC but it is against incredible odds.... WE ALL KNOW WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN.

The chase and fight scenes are good but lack that essential "what's gonna happen next?" feel. We know Obi, Ani, Padme, Yoda, etc. are all gonna be OK. They are invincible in a sense and this does take quite a bit away from the tension and general awe that the first trilogy inspired.

I only wish Lucas had the technology to do the episodes in order. I think it would have been immensely more effective, especially if he could have hidden the Anikan/Vader connection until 'Empire Strikes Back'.

Of coarse we know whats going to happen.

*News Flash* --Lucas made parts 4,5 and 6 first.

It is obvious for us to have an idea of whats going to happen.

When Lord of the rings came out last year , did you say "awww shucks I already knew what was going to happen"? If you were a fan of LOTR before they made the movie, you knew exactly what would happen. Did that make it a bad movie? NO

Dont get us wrong drevil, we're not flaming you or being mean....we're just pointing out....you know how a lot of movies are going to end.....it's the execution of what happens in the middle that matters......like jurrasic park..if you read the books...you know EXACTLY what will happen.....even more than you knew in AOTC...but i still love that movie......or as motion man said....lord of the rings was a GREAT movie....but we know what happens.

Well I guess Lucas is just a hack then. Cause he sure as hell isn't doing a good job of filling in the missing pieces with anything but eye candy.

The post was intended as a defense to the "This movie sucks!" posters but now I think I may be just a misguided fanboy. Everything points to one conclusion... as a special effects guru Lucas is a master.. as a writer and director he is an absolute hack.

In the 5+ movies I've seen Natalie Portman in, she has been brilliant in each role. Hand her over to Lucas and she mine as well be Tori Spelling.

Same for Ewan McGregor. He mine as well be Tori Spelling too.

As for Hayden, who I thought was just making an honorable weak 'rookie' performance... I just watched him in 'Life as a House' and the guy was frickin' brilliant.

So it all comes back to weak dialogue, tired plot, and horrid direction.

Thanks all for helping me come out of my 'the next one will be better' coma.

No, cuz all of the Star Wars movies have what all these people are complaining about. They're just spoiled due to watching the first trilogy and expecting more. Just remember, it's harder than a hell of a lot of things to make a successful sequel. Perhaps Lucas isn't thinking of success. Let the man tell his story the way he wants.

Of course it will not be as good as the first trilogy, because the first trilogy was groundbreaking in terms of it's filmmaking. No one had ever seen anything like Star Wars before. The special effects were incredible(for that time), the characters were likeable, and the story had a noble theme that was unique for a Science Fiction film. Star Wars. . ."touched us", for lack of a better term.

Now, in this era of exhorbitant film budgets and digitally created cinematics, where two men in their basement can make a film on a computer that looks like a major Hollywood production(not saying that there is anything wrong with that), we have become "desensitized" would be the best way to describe it.

So, no. You will never be as enthralled with these episodes as you were with the originals. Because your eyes have been opened. :D

Just my $0.02:D

whatever happened to That Ender fellow? He was a good person for these types of threads, because he saw the Prequels first, and then the OT...and he fell in love with star wars because of the prequels.....he had a new perspective than most of us!

And norin is very correct.....The OT was totally groundbreaking, doing new things with cinema that amazed us all! But now there really isn't anything new that you can do.......
