Com Raven
Well, an off-topic thread by most esteemed Hannibal left me wondering: What are ppl's expectations for this game ? So, tell me !
Obnavox
The best damn game period. Well not as good as Project Ego or Steel Batallion but certainly better than Star Wars Galaxies and Jedi Knight 2.
Com Raven
well, going up against those two is hard... and after Black & White, I won't believe tha Ego is that great until I played it...
Darth Damage
well, i was never a fan of the rpgs untill i saw some of the newer ones like NWN, Galaxies, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, and of course Knights of The old Republic, i was turned off by them because they were not 3D looking and those kind of picky stupid things. Now that I absolutly love these games i will expect to do anything liek flying all over the place and being able to interact with all kinds of people and species. Galaxies is an MMORPG, whereas KOTOR is it's own self contained story. JK2 is an action shooter/RPG. What I expect is an exciting game. Allowing me to choose between the light and dark paths of the force. It will be interesting.
Zindell
I've played so few games from lucasarts that have been bad I expect it will be amazing.
Hannibal
Since I inspired this thread I guess I should add my thoughts. I am also glad to know that I am most esteemed. I can't wait to construct a lightsaber. I was hoping for taking an apprentice but won't be upset if it's not in the game. My perfect game would be a game where you start of as an apprentice in the Temple, a Jedi chooses you as his/her padawan, you go through missions growing, take the trials become a jedi and train your own padawan. It would be cool cause you Master or padawan could die and that would add to the drama. Oh well. This game will be the closest to that.
qibbish
The best damn game period. Well not as good as Project Ego or Steel Batallion but certainly better than Star Wars Galaxies and Jedi Knight 2. Aside from giving the obligatory 'apples and oranges' response, I have to ask why you feel this game will be better than SWG (I omit JK2 since it's a shooter)? i personally feel both will be amazing. In SWG's favor though, at least the designers of the game speak to the community at large on a nearly daily basis (more than I can say for Bioware). Of course, a MMORPG is not simply a game, it is also a service--so this can be expected. Regarding the initial question, my expectations have been tempered by the information released so far. Initially though, I had hoped for something as RPG as Fallout, and as epic as BG1 (at least). I like the fact they placed moral ambiguity into the quest mix, but am skeptical that the evil path is a realistically playable one (ala BG1, where being evil tended to equate kill-on-sight). I'm pretty much in a wait and see mode. I will play the game, but have been vastly disappointed in the movies released so far (and 1/3rd of the released info). Like I said, I'll play it.. but I doubt I'll be in line opening night.

Pantherine
I personally liked Hannibals idea as for a good game but i would hope that this game will have events that take place for example going to an arena or such to see a large duel or even a race of some sort that will happen regurlarly on a schedule or at a specific time. I also liked the game elder scrolls 3: morrowind in the fact that you can stray so far off from the original story line in which i hope this quality of this game will become apart of KOTOR. Another quality I would hope to be in this game is the ability to deflect blaster shots as you could in the PS1 game Star Wars Jedi Power Battles and even apply that ability to the saber fights for example if someone did a vertical swing at me with a lightsaber I would press the defend or block button just before the attack got in range and if your opponent did a combo on you you would just press the defend or block button on the first attack and hold it down for the following attacks until they stopped. It would be interesting if they took that to another level for instance if you were a simple jedi you would have to continuously use the defend button whereas if you were a jedi master you wouldn't even have to worry about so as to it being like in JK2 (almost). qibbish
Com, Basically I disliked the visual aesthetic and the world designs. Visually, I mainly reference the avatars (which looked very stilted) and the combat animations (more of the same, regarding stiffness). Hopefully this will be overcome with some rather acrobatic feats. Then again, if it weren't for magic system combat wouldn't have been more than a yawn with BG either. I can add the look of the saber to my current gripe as well. The general proportions were a bit off IMHO, and the ends looked noticeably flattened in a few shots (hopefully something they will correct in the final build). World design I can chalk up to the youth of the build again, but it seemed very empty. This is something many reviewers have commented to NWN as well, it seems harder to render a vibrant world in 3D than 2D (with the static, yet lovely, backgrounds and NPCs). Although it doesn’t have anything to do with the movies themselves, I am also bothered by the lack of non-linearity in this game. BG was FAR from being non-linear, but I was hoping for a world more reactive (in regards to affecting the primary story arc through player actions) than what we appear to be given. I was most disturbed by the fact that the game is designed to force all players into a single class towards the middle of the game. I come from an Arcanum, & Fallout petagree, so I think you can understand my viewpoint. Lastly, the lack of developer concern for the community I find very distasteful. They have no obligation to communicate information to us, but after some amazing experiences involving the Arcanum and SWG development teams, I’m unused to getting the cold shoulder. IMHO, It is by FAR smarter to interact the community on a continual basis, establishing a rapport and driving up anticipation than to leave us out in the cold. Not only does it stifle interest in the title (as evidenced by the poor membership of this forum), it isn’t smart from a design standpoint. They loose the litmus of customer reception to aspects of gameplay. Anyhow, I’m very tired, so I apologize if I put forth conceptual or syntatical errors in a few places. Like I said, when more information is released on this title (i.e. game mechanics, force abilities, feats, a full range of classes, etc) I may become more excited again. Com Raven
well, if you don't like it all in all , that's a pity... but for the sometimes lacking graphics: Brad Grier, Bio's Communications Manager admitted during the show that the game wasn't perfectly ported over to the xbox so far, so we should see some major improvements while they tame the hardware... and yes, I also feel it's a pity there's not more info from the devs... but you have to think that they are at the moment releasing NWN, which is by far the biggest, most ambitious Bio game to date... I expect a lot more Knights info once the initial dust over NWN has settled in, let's assume a month..

qibbish
Its sad to see people or critisizing this game before its out, but its your opinion so i can respect that. Hey, it's sad to me as well. I realize some people, particularly on the net, get their jollies off denigrating other's art, but I honestly don't. I'd much rather the game meet my every expectation, but that is unrealistic if any thought is put into the matter. I value holding a realistic perspective over all, and even though the little fan-boy within me wants to praise KotoR simply for existing, I have to hold back the urge to place it on a pedestal and examine the good with the bad. Good does exist, I feel we all acknowledge that simply with our presence, but so does the bad. Whether these exist in an objective light or simply as subjective ghosts within my head--I won't know until release. Though my negativity serves no positive purpose now, neither does blindly extolling positivity. Again I lament that developer involvement is so slim with this title, otherwise either might serve some good in the long run. (btw- I realise you weren't trying to flame me, I only hope this doesn't come off like that either).

qibbish
Yeah, com.. and I'm glad you do. I guess my existence is to balance yours . Its sad to see people or critisizing this game before its out I should have commented on this before, but this kind of lament only makes contextual sense if I were criticizing aspects of the game I haven't experienced. No, the game isn't out, but you'll also notice I didn't comment on any real game-play issues (aside from structural elements, which we know are fact). I commented on visual aspects, which--for all tenses and purposes--are already out. So, in effect, I am actually criticizing something that is out, just not the overall game. Carnival
to be honest when i first heard about kotor i thought they'd use the BG 2 engine heavilly modified to the standard that ice wind dale 2 shows ...i was expecting a large epic cause that engine can do that even thought looks wise it kinda sucks a lil...i was expecting huge maps and many playable areas...now that they are using the aurora engine...well the graphics are better but im scared they wont be able to make it the grand epic it deserves to be NwN was short - really short and that was after a development cycle of 5 years...my worry is that bioware will make its first turkey by taking on a bit too much and not listening to its fans on this case becuase they will think that being a bioware and starwars game people will buy it no matter what...bioware is being given a time period that while is established is still open to inteprutation due to no films or books clearly outlining each event...and yes i want there to be places off the beaten track and numerious side quests that made the BG games so good... i want the starwars canon used to the fullest and everything that appeared in the games, films, books and comics to make an appearance in the game...and most of all i want interactivity between you and your character...if i want my character to look like darth mual, i want it to be posible to equip my character that way...oh and finally i want an mp experience...the same module system thats in NwN i want in kotor with the ability to base your module on say anything within the starwars universe...if you want to create a rpg module on "a new hope" you can... Com Raven
well, a few things to think about: -NWN had admittedly 4 years, but: first 3d rpg they did, plus they had to get sp, mp Dm client and toolset to all work nicely along each other... -NWN's levels may not be as epic as BG's, but they had to use tiles, which kinda results in blockier levels... seeing how there's no toolset around this time, they can once again do much bigger levels.. -as I said, most likely no editors, so you may be dissapointed with that...
