Jedi_Monk
I'd like to try and build a replica of Aayla's lightsaber at some point. Wasn't Aayla's lightsaber the same one that Ki-Adi-Mundi used? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere... at least that's the way it was in the movie
AgentSmith
Yes, correct Jedi_Monk. In the EU Star Wars comics Aayla's lightsaber looks like a cross between Qui-Gon Jinn's lightsaber and Luke Skywalkers ROTJ lightsaber. She also has a red blade. (Contrary to the canon Jedi colors of blue, green and purple.) When George Lucas was inspired by cover art made by Jon Foster for one of the comics that portrayed Aayla, he decided to put her in Episode II. At that time though Episode II was well into post-production. They made her entire outfit in two weeks, an almost exact replica of her outfit in the 'Darkness' comic. Amy Allen who worked at ILM was cast to play Aayla and she did 4 days of green screen shooting. But since it was during post-production they didn't have time to construct her a unique lightsaber so at first they used 'spares' and at one point even Ki-Adi Mundi's. So it is possible if not likely that during her Ep II scenes she has dfferent lightsabers. But since she's -sadly- not on the foreground you can't really tell that well. Though now she has the canon movie classic blue blade color. Interesting tidbit, in the current 'Rite of Passage' comics which take place before Ep II in their timeline - but were published after- Aayla already has her blue bladed lightsaber. (The lightsaber itsself looks somewhat different from her Ep II version though.) Jan Duursema, who originally penciled Aayla and did so again for 'Rite of Passage' has slightly altered the look of the comic book Aayla. She is a spitting image of Amy Allen as Aayla in Ep II. Nebelwerfer_
i think the crystal inside the lightsaber is really interesting, I wonder if it has anything to do with the color of the lightsaber. That would mean that mace windu's has a rare crystal in it.
MotionMan
Well acording to various sources(mostly EU but some are some what cannon)the light sabers color does have to do with what type of crystals you use. Sith use sinthetic crystals that make the blade a bit more powerful but not as agile as a Jedi blue or green blade. About Mace's saber: I would guese that its a rare or not much used type of crystal. Maybe its an electric Saber:) And im not saying that cause his saber is called an electrum lightsaber. I know that means that he is on the council(even this is not cannon)

Mace's Saber is unique because it does NOT use a crystal...
