ok i modeled it all day in gmax, dunno if it's proportioned right or if you can use it alaris but it may help instad of using pics of already done sabers(pretty much all i know how to do is create objects and position them)

if ya want i can send ya the gmax file and you can modify it all the way you want or start from scratch, or whatever.

but this is kinda like what i want :D

Alaris, since your one of the BEST sber modelers out there i think your next project should be a tutorial on how to make a saber model using G-Max like Pud said, by the way i too think Milkshape is harder too. So, Everyone if you want Alaris to make a Tutorial for beginers using G-Max, Give me a SMILEY:joy:

It would REALLY help ALOT of us less experienced Modelers out there

easy enough ;)

1. make a screenshot of your model

2. make sure its 70 * 70 pixels (so it won't look so good if its a big model...)

3. go into User CP

4. then into Edit Options

5. Then click on Change Avatar in the buttom

6. wait for the avatar menu to load

7. go down in the buttom

8. click "Yes" in the use Custom Avatar option

9. either write the avatar's url or upload it from your HD...

there ya go a step by step tutorial on how to change avatars :)

now i only need to figure out how that Gmax works so i can make my own sabers in there...

I'm flattered to read the tutorial requests. However, I think I have someone out there pissed at me as well. I got 1 out of five sabers on my recently uploaded plo koon hilt, and the last vote knocked my alaris hilt down from 5 to 4 sabers. :'(

Anywho, I modeled all of these sabers in Milkshape. There are aleady wonderful tutorials on making models. If you want tips, I would be more than obliged.

The gear-like grip on the bottom of plo koon and anakin's hilts is fairly simple.

1.) Create a cylinder with 14 -20 slices. The gear-grip will fall towards the bottom of the hilt between two groups of cyndrilical vertices.

Illustration from the front or side view of the gear-like grip

The red area is one of the selected slices of the cylinder between these two sets of vertices

2.) Extrude one of the slices in the g(composed of two polygons forming a long rectangle) on the z or x plane, depending on which one you choose, so that the slice now sticks out like on of the gear-grips.

3.) You will have to rotate it so that the lines are parallel on the TOP-DOWN view.

4.) Now this part is key. Skinmap this one extruded box, so that when you duplicate it, they will already have the proper mappings when you assign the texture.

5.) Now duplicate this long rectangle and move it to every other, or every third slice depeding on how dense you want the grip.

6.) Snap and weld the corresponding vertices, so each stack is now completely welded on the model.

(Hint: You may want to delete the polygons in the slices that are now the extruded box duplicates to reduce the polycount)

7.) ROTATE the outer edges from the TOP-DOWN perspective so they are parallel----Very important to rotate so that the size of each gear-grip remains consistent in size.

I hope this helps. Some of the steps may not make sense unless you actually follow each step while you model.

Good luck, happy modeling, and may the force be with all of you

Keep making saber hilts, it is your true talent. I was just wondering if you were ever going to make your first hilt (the red 1) into silver, b/c THAT would kick major arse  (me and my friend when we finaaaallllyyy get that red hilt silver):D

or.... if this one looks better i did a lil editing and lowered the polycount on the one I really like, so i can have many cylinders and still have it looking nice

Can ya believe that

thats not even skined and it makes my skin shiver :D

Ony 853 polys and 493 vertices

if anyone wants to work on uvwrapping/unwraping for me it would be appreciated!:D

Hey alaris What do you think i should work on to be better in modeling?
