Mappers PLEASE don't make this mistake

AGH! Do NOT integrate mods in your map. This may seem cool, but its waaay more trouble than its worth. For example, "The Lobby" multiplayer map included JediMovesMod. Yes, this is a cool mod, and yes, its more "matrixy", but its also a pain in the ass for those who run dedicated servers.

Before I continue, let me clarify that by integrating mods into your map I mean actually merging the two together, not simply including them in the same zip.

My server was kicking people who didn't have the JediMovesMod, even though I hadn't even downloaded JediMoves. I searched in my base directory for JediMoves, but it wasn't there! STILL, through the All Seeing Eye, I could tell my server was indeed running the JediMovesMod.

Painfully, I went through all of my 350 .pk3's and removed them bit by bit, until my server was back to running the "basejk" mod. Why was it running JediMoves? Because "The Lobby" had JediMoves included in the level, and it was tainting my entire server even though that level was not being used.

So please, if you're going to include a mod, put it in the same zip so server operators have the option of installing it or not. Thanks.

I have a mod I'm working on integrated with my SP level PK3, but that's a good thing. Without my modifications I couldn't even have my SP level...

that is lame. sorry you had to sort thru all the pak files.

i wish there was a way to organize them better so they arent all in the base folder - i got like maybe 10 custom skins, and maybe a dozen custom levels, and i HATE how cluttered that directory is

Emon I dont think he is concerned about SP maps.

after all its just gona be you that is playing it right?

At worst your gona say "Why the hell is Desan now Vader?"

or something, figure it out and set it up as a mod instead of in yer base dir.

Yeh...no multiplayer maps with built in mods, very good point sinoth

idontlikegeorge, you could try taking them apart and putting them together

more compactly, for example put all those custom skins in one pk3.

Just dont forget what was made by who or you might have some

annoyed authors when it comes time to distribute something :D

But that could be solved mostly by keeping all their readmes in a folder.

Uhm, I'm RELEASING my level, so I'd imagine other people will play it.

Oh, how silly me. Of course people won't play it! That's because everyone here who likes SP considers a level that consists of nothing but slaughtering reborn and stormtroopers good. All SP levels I have played to this date, including the Ladder, are pure crap. Anyways, back on topic...

Yeah, don't put mods into your levels by default.

Wow, big difference...

I don't plan on doing anything like adding mods, not even as seperate pk3's(unless they're needed)

Not even skins will be found with my maps...

Emon, go to Jk2files.com and get the singleplayer map Imperial Base.

It is fairly short (work in progress) but it is a little better than many

of the singleplayer missions by Raven. Maping both technicaly and artisticaly high level, good semi-nonlinear mission design. Its awsome.

It actualy feels like your walking through a base! not just a random collection

of rooms like many mapers turn out or just a totaly linear 'ride' through a base

like all too many comerial games put you through.

"Har" :confused:
