mercatfat
You want gaming mags? Nintendo Power, how the mighty have fallen. I was a loyal subscriber for years ever since I got a free issue from a mail-in offer on a box of Apple Jacks. A great magazine for people like me who prefer graphics alongside their walkthroughs. However.. the mag just isn't the same anymore. The magic of their reader mail is gone, the writing is suffering, and eh, the maps and strategies just aren't as useful anymore since gaming just doesn't work like it did in the 8 and 16 bit era. your milage may vary. If you want a lesson in not being goddamn funny, I suggest reading A. Any post by Jake or King Andrei, B. The dialogue in any game translated by Working Designs or C. Game Informer. Jesus christ, they just try too hard, and end up just coming way too short as a magazine in the end. Gamepro. Don't even get me started. Terrible, terrible writing by terribly punned cartoons. Their review system, going from an asleep guy as the lowest to a guy having fellatio from a high-power line as the highest rating is just plain awful. Reviews that often forget that games are meant to be fun, not just pretty and stylish.. terrible, terrible. EGM. Now there's a magazine. Sure, their reviews may suck sometimes, but the variety of opinions on each game by the staff make them much more accurate than one person's opinion on a game. I also find that the mindset of the reviewers is much more like mine, looking for games that are enjoyable and a worthwhile, fun experience. Their articles kick ass, whether they be interviews, historical articles, lists, buying guides, whatever. The mag also tends to be pretty funny, but intelligent funny, unlike GI. Gamefan, RIP. I loved you. Incite, you did your job well. Your striving to be Maxim, but video games, worked, as just about every 8th grade guy I knew got a copy of your mag, just like Maxim. Too bad anyone looking for good content, writing and reviews knew that your mag was terrible. Jake, I kid because I love.
