I still stand with my theory that the Kaminoan mis-pronounced "Sidious" and spouted out "Sifo-Dyas" (which was originally Sido-Dyas in the script.) Maybe it's a conflict in the Kaminoan tongue. After all, didn't he pause for a moment when trying to say the name? I think Obi-Wan just mistook it for a Jedi named Sifo-Dyas who coincidentally died 10 years ago. And finally, for those who think that Sidious wouldn't go to Kamino in person, remember that he controlled the Trade Federation via hologram transmission. Perhaps he just dialed 1-800-CLONES-R-US or something.

NO! sorry but neither of you can be right, its not possible, THE JEDI KNEW SIFO DYAS, THEY KNEW HIM. HE WAS ON THE FRIGGIN COUNCIL FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!!! if yoda and windu knew this guy then he is OBVIOUSLY not dooku, or sidious. jeeze, he was just some jedi that got twisted into sidious' scheme somehow, and yes i think it will be cleared up in ep3

Did you even pay attention to what I said? IT WAS A COINCIDENCE. The name "Sidious" was mis-pronounced. It sounded like Sifo-Dyas. Coincidentally, there was a Sifo-Dyas as a Jedi. I don't think Sidious expected anyone to come to Kamino to investigate. Seriously, the chances of stumbling into a planet is slim-to-none. And, since when was Sifo-Dyas on the Council? The whole Council appeared in TPM, and none of them were named Sifo-Dyas.

Perhaps Master Sifo Dyas was killed by Sidious. He probably sent his lap dog Maul out to get him. That guy was just way too loyal, especially for a Sith. So, Sifo Dyas becomes one with the Force, and somewhere along the way, Kamino gets erased from the Database. Sidious or Tyranus go out to Kamino, and order a clone army under the name Sifo Dyas, a great Jedi master. They're partly right, he was a jedi master. Ten years later, Obi-wan follows a paper trail back to the Jedi Council, and everything is even more confusing than before. Meanwhile, Sidious has no direct links back to himself, and no one's the wiser. Even Jango Fett says he was recruited by Tyranus, not Sifo Dyas. Which is part of the reason I believe it was Tyranus pretending to be Sifo Dyas, not Sidious. So meanwhile, Sidious is just sitting there with a "What, me worry? " look on his face, the Jedi's are off chasing long dead masters, and they've got a trail that starts cold, and ends cold.

Pretty frickin' slick if you ask me.:emperor:

EDIT: It doesn't say anywhere in the movie that Sifo Dyas was on the council. Maybe the Kaminoans just think he was, remember this person is already lying to them, so why would he worry about one more lie. I think originally, Sifo Dyas was meant to be a misprouniciation of Sidious, but of course, Lucas had to go with the idea that made less sense...

I just got back from seeing AotC and I can't remember Obi-Wan saying anything about Syfo-Dias being on the Jedi Council... Lama Su asks him "Syfo-Dias is still a leading member of the Jedi Council, is he not?" to which Obi-Wan replies vaguely, "Master Syfo-Dias died almost ten years ago..." He's neither confirming nor denying that Syfo-Dias was on the Council, only saying that he's dead. But then, later he says that he thought Syfo-Dias had been dead more than ten years.

Either way, how're the Kaminoans to know what's up? They keep to themselves, they don't care about the outside universe, they don't care who's on the Jedi Council or not... they just care who has the money and who has the money can be whatever that want to call themselves ;)

Well, if you say so. I just don't remember where it says he was on the Council. Maybe you could elaborate with an exact quote?

Wait a minute, I have the whole script for AOTC right here! (it came with the TimeTales on TheForce.net.)

--------------------

INT. TIPOCA CITY, PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE – DAY

The door slides open. Obi-Wan and Taun We enter and cross to where LAMA SU rises smiling from his chair, which, like all the furniture on Kamino, seems made out of pure light.

TAUN WE: May I present Lama Su, Prime Minister of Kamino. And this is Master Jedi –

OBI-WAN: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

LAMA SU: Please…

Lama Su gestures to a seat, which Obi-Wan does not take. Lama Su sits as well, while Taun We hovers beside him. The room is bathed in brilliant white light. The whole place is ultra high-tech.

LAMA SU: I trust you are going to enjoy your stay. We are most happy you have arrived at the best part of the season.

OBI-WAN: You make me feel most welcome.

LAMA SU: (indicates the chair again) Please…?

Obi-Wan finally sits down.

LAMA SU: And now to business: You will be delighted to hear that we are on schedule. Two hundred thousand units are ready, with a million more well on the way.

Obi-Wan is lost, but improvises as best he can.

OBI-WAN: That’s…good news.

LAMU SU: Please tell your Master Sifo-Dyas that his order will be met on time and in full. He is well, I hope.

OBI-WAN: I’m sorry? Master – ?

LAMU SU: Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas is still a leading member of the Jedi Council, is he not?

Obi-Wan is visibly puzzled.

OBI-WAN: Master Sifo-Dyas was killed almost ten years ago.

LAMA SU: Oh. I’m so sorry to hear that. But I’m sure he would have been proud of the army we’ve built for him.

OBI-WAN: The army…!?

LAMA SU: Yes – a clone army. And I must say, one of the finest we’ve ever created.

OBI-WAN: (thinking furiously) Tell me, Prime Minister… when my Master first contacted you about the army, did-did he say who it was for?

LAMA SU: Of course he did. The army is for the Republic.

----------------------

Crap. Oh, well. Still, I stand with the mis-pronunciation theory. Anyone else?

Check further on in that script. I believe that when Obi is talking to mace and yoda, that he says something about Sifo Dyas being dead OVER 10 years. He just said almost 10 years, so as not to arouse suspicion amongst the Kaminoans I suppose. Something like that.

Remember though, Sifo Dyas could be a master, but not on the council. You don't have to be a master to be on the council, and you don't have to be on the council to be a master. Maybe whoever's impersonating him just said he was a member of the jedi council, giving himself more credability. As Jedi monk said, they would never know. And Kamino was erased from the archives, so he thought that no Jedi will be visiting anytime soon.

INT. JEDI TEMPLE, YODA’S QUARTERS – LATE AFTERNOON

Yoda and Mace Windu listen as a hologram of Obi-Wan (out in the rain by his starfighter) stands between them broadcasting the massage. The signal is very weak, the image fades in and out.

OBI-WAN: (V.O.) I have successfully made contact with the Prime Minister of Kamino. They are using a bounty hunter named Jango Fett to create a clone army. I have a strong feeling that this bounty hunter is the assassin we’re looking for.

MACE WINDU: Do you think these cloners are involved in the plot to assassinate Senator Amidala?

OBI-WAN: (V.O.) No, Master. There appears to be no motive.

YODA: Do not assume anything, Obi-Wan. Clear your mind must be if you are to discover the real villains behind this plot.

OBI-WAN: (V.O.) Yes, Master. They say Master Sifo-Dyas placed an order for the clone army at the request of the Senate almost ten years ago.

Yoda and Mace Windu glance at each other in surprise.

OBI-WAN: I was under the impression he was killed before that. Did the Council ever authorize the creation of a clone army?

MACE WINDU: No. Whoever placed that order did not have the authorization of the Jedi Council, I can assure you.

YODA: Into custody take this Jango Fett. Bring him here -- question him, we will.

OBI-WAN: (V.O.) Yes, Master. I will report back when I have him. May the Force...

The hologram switches off, and Obi-Wan fades away.

-------------------------

The order was placed almost 10 years years ago. Obi-Wan said he was killed before then.

Funny how people have taken Obi-Wan going along with the leads from the Kamonians, to make it like Obi-Wan said all of this.

If you look at the way he acted all the time on Kamino, he was reacting to what they said, he never confirmed or denied anything.........
