The Microsoft Gaming Zone

Greetings!

First and foremost, a most heartfelt thanks to all of you who are making Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds the phenomenal success that it is! It is because of you, the players of this game, that we made the original game and the expansion pack, Clone Campaigns, and it is very gratifying to know that you are all enjoying it so much.

I want to share an observation with the players who play this game on the Microsoft Gaming Zone. I've been regularly visiting the zone as Jedi_Gaber (yes, it really is me) during my vacation from LucasArts - playing the game and observing the situation on the Zone. One situation that I've seen, that we all need to work together to correct, is that Deathmatch and Custom Scenario players are playing in the Random Map rooms.

The problems with this are as follows:

1) True Random Map players cannot get into random map games because the slots are all taken. Because of this, players of the game are becoming frustrated, and possibly giving up on the game.

2) The Deathmatch and Custom Scenario rooms never fill up, so the game looks to the Zone like it is not growing, and hence, we never get more rooms or ranked rooms or whatever else we're asking for.

These are the kind of things that really spoil players' good times, and that is why I'm asking that you move to the appropriate rooms. It will help expand the game, keep everyone happy, and help the game with the Zone. Since we are doing our own policing, we ask that everybody be as cool as possible with these guidelines.

Thanks again for your continued support, and I hope you continue to enjoy the game.

Hello Mr. Gaber,

(already thank you for this great game)

I fear that this message (appreciated) is not enough to reverse the current tendancy on Zone. A rather simple way of arrenger the things would be to utilize Members+ (moderating) and their to require close the game which are not in the good rooms.

Thank you for your listening

Ok, My Gaber, sir.

I am petitioning to become a M+ for SWGB/SWGB:CC, and other rts games, after bing encouraged by a few other M+'s to do it. When the next sign up happens, I will apply, and they will all put in a few good words for me. Maybe you could too? I would be there at least 4 hours every night (as per 3 weeks ago), and I am a good community and room placement spokesman.

What do ya say, be a bud and put in a good few words?

Thanks for taking the time out to reply to my email on the forums - I really do hope it makes that vital difference.

Being a + on the MSN Zone, I do wish I could move people to different rooms but all I can do is ask - and some of you have seen the responses I get :-( - hence the gag gun makes an appearance.

Garry is right. If we ALL did our part it would make a difference. Yes, the CC RM 1 room is the busiest but if Scenario players HOSTED their game in the Scenario room but advertised the game in the CC RM1 or 2, that would make space for more RM games.

By hosting in the Scenario room, it will make the Scenario room fill up and then you will be suprised how quickly Scenario players will move over to THEIR room. It will take time and patience, so please make the effort. Do you really want this game to be dead by Christmas?

Guys I just would like to say that being an avid fan of most of lucasarts game releases up to date, I would hate to see what happened to other games such as Rebellion, X-Wing Alliance, happen to Battlegrounds.

It would be a crying shame. People say this game is just a cheap knock-off of AoK, and they are wrong... This game has to do with Star Wars, something we all love to take part in. I got both games, and the AoE series... I play BG and CC, and will til there is no one left to play. AoE series just isnt Star Wars :)

Gary Gaber:

Firstly, SWGBG is a great game, i enjoy playing RM, DM, and Custon Scenarios. I am the first to create Fortress BLood, one of the most popular scenes on the zone, as well as numerous others.

I belive that a diehard RMer woundnt get frustrated by the lack of rooms, diehard gamers play where they want, Ii back this up with my experience with AOE2 TC, where youll see mix of DM, RM and/or SCEN, in all rooms, with over 4000 people playing. At this point theres maybe 500 people that play SWGBG, and naturally people will "set up camp" where they see the most activity, which unfortunately is the Random Map Room 1. Since there is at this time fewer players why not sugesst all the rooms to be generalized, once there is a even flow of players as with AOE2, people will start to flow in there own rooms.

If there are that many RMers they would be catching the rooms and others will fall in place.

This is just my observation with RTS games.

Sincerely,

The only way to solve this is to make the first room for both GB and CC a General Room and make the second room in both a RM Room. Let's be realistic people, at this point it's easier to move the RM people to a different room than it is to move the scenario people.

Let's face it, the hard core RM'ers have chased off all the newbies with rushing tactics and now they're complaining that there isn't enough RM players.

I'm a Random Map player myself, but I can still see things how they actually are instead of how I'd like them to be. Is GB dead? Maybe to us RM'ers. To the scenario people it's very much alive.

Hopefully the situation can still be saved, but with Age of Mythlogy coming out, it doesn't seem likely....

So when's GB 2 coming out?

I agree that at this point it would be easier for all RMers to move to room2. Make the first a generalized room and the second an RM room.

I too plan on applying for + status when it comes up again... If enough of us apply, surely a few of us can get it and start showing the zone how important the game is.

I also suggest that whoever sees the post about applications for + being accepted alert everybody here so we can flood them with applications. ;P

I think moving the RMers is a good idea but the rooms arn't great for anyone everyone sees the first room with lots of ppl so they go there and wait for the game they ant to open up. But the room has lots of ppl cos they're all playing so there's always max.3 rooms open at 1 time with noone going in. We need at least 2 scenario rooms.

Well, I'lll agree with the fact that the harcores playing trooper wars with their early T2 rushes sucks for me. As I consider myself a low intermediate/intermediate player.

But the problem is noobs are all going to go to Room 1 seeing all the people, and get scared away with all the friggin scenarios after they play one and get whooped.

I already posted this on another thread, but I'll say it again.

LucasArts' games NEED something similar to Blizzard's Battle.net. The zone is great for games like Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear etc.

There are many Star Wars games and I think that it's time for LucasArts to lunch it's OWN multiplayer zone. It could like The Zone, it could be like Battle.net or it could be completly new. The main idea here is that LucasArts is growing bigger and bigger with every release and now, it needs to have control over its multiplayer games.

Mr. Gaber, have you ever went on Battle.net to play a Blizzard game? If no, you should go, and see how well the games are suported and how easier it is to find a proper game.

I suppose many people here have played StarCraft. If you ever went on Battle.net, you know that the Scenario games have their respective room, and it's impossible to create a Scenario game in the Melee room.

For those who got WarCraft III, Battle.net is even better! In a few seconds, you can be in a game with the settings you want!

Hear me, LucasArts! You NEED to have your own multiplayer support.

I think that's a great idea Darth, after all it's not really in Microsoft's best interest to give Galactic BattleGrounds the support it deserves because it competes with the Age of Empire series.

The zone is getting annoying anyway with it's .net signup sheet, massive amount of ads, and lack luster support. With the Jedi Knight and Galactic BattleGround series Lucas Arts has two multi-player games with strong community support. It would only grow larger with something like Battle.Net. Take the best the Zone and Battle.Net have to offer and combine it into your own system.
