JK1: Good Deal?

I like the story of JO and I'm wondering if JK1 is just as good?

I want to fight the Twilek that wields duel sabers and I wanna see the FMVs (are they actually good or cheesy?).

Does anyone still reccomend the game after a good 5 years after it's release?

(I hear TIE Fighter is good- I have the Xwing series up to XVT Flight School, and I'm currently on it's second mission).

I don't touch JKI anymore. Horrible graphics, goofy lightsaber moves, and (imo) worse force powers then JK2.

However, when it came out, I was hooked.

It was a good game for its time, but now, I can't stand it. If your interested, its probably like 5 bucks so it may be a worthy investment for you.

I played TIE fighter on the Mac. Some of the missions are impossible, though I'm not that extraordinary.

I thought JK1 was great. But like Red said it is very outdated in the graphics department. The story is great and some of the level designs were awesome. There is a couple of surprises in the game to depending on how you play it.

Both Xwing and Tie Fighter are excellent flight simulators but now theyre a tad old. Have u played XWing: Rebel Alliance?

I played JK1 a few weeks ago on XP without compatibility mode. Though I can only play it for a short time now before finding the graphics utterly apaulling.

lol, well the graphics are bad compared to TODAY. They were pretty fookin sweet on 16-bpp mode though back in the day. And when MOTS had coloured lighting. Maaaaaan that was nice.

As for the FMV's, they're cool. I didn't think the acting or lines were cheesy.

JK SP is a great game, but it's just too old for me anymore. My clan and I played it for 3 years solid before getting progressivley bored with it heh.

If you can afford Jedi Knight, then by all means go ahead and get it. The story is a lot better than Jedi Outcast and the characters are more interesting. IMO the cutscenes are a bit cheesy (especially the one after the first level...my friends and I to this day haven't stopped joking about it...you'll know what I mean when you see what happens to Kyle), but they're still fun to watch. The storyline also branches as you choose between the Light or the Dark Side, which adds to the replay value. The game still has a modest following on the Zone, so you can still find a good game of multiplayer. The graphics and lightsaber aren't very good by today's standards, but the game is just timeless. You may want to download the Saber Battle X mod, which improves some of the graphic effects, adds a couple new moves and makes the lightsaber cooler in general. In fact, since the game's been out so long you can find a ton of quality mods and levels.

I have had no problems running Jedi Knight under Windows XP.

Get TIE Fighter as well. It is one of the best games out there, period. X-Wing Alliance might have more features, but has no soul, and it will have less staying power in your heart. There are three versions:

- TIE95: The Windows 95 release. If any stores still carry TIE at all, this version will be it. While the graphics and music are technically "updated," it is simply less fun than the other releases. Also, this version does not work in Windows XP unless you do some patching with the Application Compatability Toolkit.

Both the DOS versions have a unique score that changes dynamically with the situation in-game, and this is probably the worst omission from the Windows version (John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra get tiring after a while, especially when each mission has the exact same music).

- TIE Diskette: The first version released, this was the first version I bought and it was stored on five diskettes. This won't work in Windows, period, you have to boot into MS-DOS. You can download it if you know where to look, which is good since my old diskettes are long gone. After the release of TIE Diskette came the expansion "Defenders of the Empire," which added some more missions and a new flyable ship.

- TIECD: The first CD release. This one runs in MS-DOS like TIE Disk. It adds voice acting and a new resolution (640x480 instead of 320x240), and it contains Defenders of the Empire as well as still more new missions. I've personally never played this version, but last I checked there were quite a few copies on sale on eBay. Beware, the packinging is pretty similar to the Windows 95 release, so read the fine print.

They help you get to the dark side a lot faster because they are moving targets... I wish there were more normal people in outcast... You can go a whole level in outcast and never see on extrea person... but in Dark Forces 2: JK You can run around on a killing sprea and having all sorts of fun with mines and making low grade traps... :D
