Pandoosh Zwoop
Hello. Before you stone me for not using the search function (if this has been asked before) I've tried but it was disabled. I've been editing games like quake2 and HL for years and I decided I was finally going to release a map. Jedi knight II maps look perfect because they're small so I should be able to finally say I'm finished for once. I wanted to throw in some items (pillars and such) that would break-away like in the map ceremonial hall. I can't veiw the compiled bsp's so that left me to guess how it was done. I figured that naturally I was looking at a func_breakable here. And I think I was right. Think being the key word. I did a test run, ran up to the object and boom. It fell apart when i touched it with my sabre. "Good" I thought. "Now I'll just make it a little tougher by adding some health and... hmmm it still fell apart" Yeah even giving it 3000 hp and it's still falling apart if i touch it with the sabre. I'd like it to take more than one hit, or at least one DIRECT hit. What the hell kind of object breaks if you tap it? At least that's what people who play the lvl will think. I know the small pillars in ceremonial hall don't do this. I've tried "sabre only" and I can still break it with a blaster. Any ideas as to how to add some toughness to it? It will be appreciated. Thank you ahead of time if you respond and thank you for your time.
idontlikegeorge
what key and value are you using, exactly? also, did the increase to 3000 make it take more blaster bolts then before?
Pandoosh Zwoop
hmm didn't check i will right away though
Pandoosh Zwoop
I can now safely say no. It's only taking one laser shot. Is this supposed to happen? Perhaps my editor is simply bugged? Or is it another entity. Everything looks okay after several checks on keys/values even recompiled which took way too long.
angelDP
It may sound dumb, but are you sure you are attacking the correct column? If you have a couple placed, try them all. That sounds realy wierd, I have made a couple of breakables w/ health before, just how you said...
Pandoosh Zwoop
At this point there is one and only one test column. I wanted to be sure I got the ents and flags right before I went nuts and placed breakables everywhere (I just didn't feel there was enough interactivity in the packaged maps) So we've got one column, one target, one royal pain.... . I've tried remaking it. It's still not making any difference. I've build it as a pillar, a wall (and not facing into the void either), as a group of stairs, and as a simple statue (all the brush objects i want destrucable) every time, failure. What's going on here? I'm still hoping for a miracle I guess in that someone will know what's up.
idontlikegeorge
so what is the exact key and value you are using? maybe yer missing a capital letter or something
Pandoosh Zwoop
Well I found out my problem was with my 3rd party editor, quark. It's just not editing func_breakables properly. It's not saving the 'health' values when I reload the maps. I was using it though because GTK isn't compiling. I'm getting this error: "----BSP---- SetQdirFromPath: no 'base' in !#*@ (radical edward crap wingdings)" Any one else experience this and/or know how to fix it? Wes Marrakesh
Use JK2Radiant
Pandoosh Zwoop
I am. Now at least. The problem is I can't compile with J2K radiant. I made a mistake with the name. but I just fixed it on my own. I couldn't compile because i was saving my maps in my documents. By simply saving them in the base/maps directory all is solved! thanks for your help all and my apologies.
