Death Star Throne Room Released

I've just sent in my Death Star Throne Room map to JK2.net, JediOutcastMaps.com, massassi.net and JK2Files.com, so hopefully you can expect them up on those sites sometime soon.:)

This is my first attempted/released map, and I think I made it fairly accurate to RotJ. Of course, there were exceptions for the sake of gameplay.

The main purpose of this thread is to figure out if I should take the time to go back and fix the CSG Subtract problem I have with my map. Let me explain...

There is something that confuses and bothers me about my map. I ended up using CSG Subtract on my windows to get the right effect. This actually worked out quite well in the Single Player version of my map, but in the MP version, you can see the areas that i used CSG Subtract. I've tried everything I can think of and it seems the only way to fix this is to redo it, something that I just don't have time for right now.:( I don't understand why it looks perfect in SP, but not in MP. It doesn't take away from the gameplay in MP, but does take away from the visual quality.

On a side note, I recommend EVERYONE who downloads my map load it up in SP to see it the way I intended it. Watching Luke and Vader go at it is quite amusing methinks:).

Basically I'm hoping someone knows how to fix this, but something tells me the only way is to redo it. I may in fact redo it, but first I would like some feedback. ALL feedback is encouraged, good or bad:). If enough people like this map and want me to try and fix this, it is likely I will. However, if I find that not many people would like to see a better version, then I probably won't spend my time doing it, at least not anytime soon.:) So it all depends on what the JK2 community would like.:)

There are also a few things I would like to add to a second version. I attempted to make the catwalk breakable like in RotJ but it came out looking pretty cheesy I'm afraid. I had a hard time finding help with this and trying to figure it out. Maybe some TIE fighters flying by every once in awhile would be cool, but I'd like to hear your opinions on this. The last thing I was thinking of (if an Emperor Model exists soon) was sit the Emperor's evil behind in that throne.:)

Honestly, I really hope people like this level because I would truly like to go back and redo the windows and touch up the little things making this an all around better map.:) It all depends on you guys though because I can live with it for now. It is by all means playable but not perfect. I just want to make sure there are enough people out there who would appreciate and make good use of a more refined map.:D

So again, ALL feedback is welcome and I hope you like it. Also, remember to load it up in SP and spawn a Luke and Vader to see it at it's best.:D

Well, i haven't seen your map yet, but i have a feeling that i know what you're talking about. If you used cgs subtract you probably have the problem that all the different sections of the wall have a different brightness, even when they are right next to eachother. I mean that one section seems lit brighter than the other one, even though they look ok in SP.

That's not really your fault, it's just that the lighting engine in MP is a lot less complex than in SP. All the lighting in SP looks a lot smoother.

Now, i'm just guessing here, but you probably used the circular windows in the map and had to make a circular window frame for them. This is probably where you used cgs subtract. Next time try using curves. It might seems difficult at first, but the endresult will probably light much better.

Just check out the section on curves on the Richdiesel Tutorial site:

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about WhiteShdw.:) I kinda figured it had something to do with lighting.

Yep, that's where I went wrong. Since this was my first map I wasn't too good with the curves, but now that I've built a map, I know ALOT more about editing in general which is the reason I will probably go back and redo it. CSG Subtract is VERY evil indeed. :(

Did you at least play my level idontlikegeorge?

I know I didn't have to, but I had a bunch of people tell me I should release it. Besides that, I wanted to. It's not like I'm ashamed of the map. Actually I'm quite proud of it.:D In fact, no offense to anyone but IMO it's better than half of the levels released even with my CSG Subtract problem.

When I first started this map I was making it with SP in mind. I figured I might as well make a MP version too. So actually, the primary purpose of my map is to have some SP spawning fun :). I figured I would try and please some MP players too.

Also, didn't you even read my first post? I'm looking to see if enough people would be interested in a second version, something that wouldn't be possible without making a first version for people to test.

Like I said, I'm happy with it.:) Whether or not the community is remains to be seen.

if yer happy with it, isnt it all that matters?

if i dont like it, maybe i should make my own map of it!

basically, it sounds like you are not quite finished with it - go with your ideas while you still got them
