mariners2001
hey, wow, i didd not know what to expect from this map. but i have to say this is the BEST map for JK2 I've seen yet. I couldn't find any flaws about it except for the fact that there were some spots of lava where it didn't hurt you and you could walk on the bottom of the lava without being hurt. Personally I think the lava should kill you instantly, but oh well. The color, the flying debris, the rock formation, the sound...I can only hope this is a scene from Episode 3. Outstanding job and keep up the great work. I hope you include bot support in the final version. If you can't, just tell me and I'll do it for you. I've already done it. By the way, could you send me the newest file at my e-mail . By the way, Yahoo accepted the last one just fine. Great job!
SunBurN
"wow, i didd not know what to expect from this map. but i have to say this is the BEST map for JK2 I've seen yet. Where was it exactly that you were able to walk around under the lava with out receiving damage? There is a trigger_hurt under the surface of the lava to that gives you either 10 or 15 damage at a time so it gives you "incentive" to get out of there quick! If you could tell me what part of the map that was or post screenies of the area, I would appreciate it. Thanks! "I hope you include bot support in the final version. If you can't, just tell me and I'll do it for you. I've already done it." I sent you an email in regards to this. Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the map! I'll get back to it now. SunBurN PS, I'll keep you updated as I fix and add things to this map.
mariners2001
Where was it exactly that you were able to walk around under the lava with out receiving damage? Um....there is so much lava, I can't really just point it out. I don't know if I'd be able to find it again even if I tried but I'll get back to you on that. Anyway, I was able to just hang out under the lava no problem....no drowning, no hurting, it was actually quite nice. Sent you some mail, SunBurn. SunBurN
That's too funny, it's not supposed to be "nice" ...but you're right, it is nice under there, kind fun to explore. But not my intention, for this map anyway SunBurN
keo718
Couple of suggestions after a second playthrough. That the lava be liquid, whereas you can float in it as water as opposed to dropping right to the bottom, and a smoky sky.
monsoontide
Hi SunBurN, I've rebuilt most of the Jedi Starfighter today - just need to work on the ****pit. It's more accurate to the movie now. Hope to have it done by this weekend for you to test. I have a few Pics of the region I mentioned which I will email to you once I sort through them for the best ones. Hope you received my other suggestions (About the 'func_bobbing' rock in the lava pool, weapon placement etc) Monsoontide
monsoontide
HA HA... Thats funny - the word c o c k p i t was moderated!!! Monsoontide
SunBurN
that IS funny!! I didn't know you couldn't say C O C K pit on this forum... Keo, I tested it with water under the lava and it simply doesn't work You can't jump out and you die instantly. I could increase the trigger_hurt so that you die faster underneath. But I wanted to give the player a chance to jump out (so that all of those force grippers don't win all the time). If I put the lava shader/brush all the way to the bottom (lava bed floor), you die instantly and you float to the bottom in complete blackness. Light entities won't work inside of the lava shader/brush. And I had a dark sky, but then I had suggestions for a stary sky...sigh...I guess I can't please everyone. Monsoontide, That's great news about the JS, and if you sent the email to my work addy, then I'll see it when I get to work tomorrow. But that's an interesting idea about the func_bobbing...I'll give that a try! SunBurN
monsoontide
Hi SunBurN, Yeah I think I must've sent the e-mail to your work by accident... I didn't have trouble sabre throwing today:D Instead my gun lasers would only show up sometimes Like the problem you've been having... wierd. I made it up to that neat ledge that goes right across the main area of the map - I think the Disruptor should be up there - sort of a reward for getting up there (Plus great for sniping ) The low power weapons should be in plain sight / easy to get to while the high power ones should be harder / deadlier & require more skill to get to. Anyway it's shaping up nicely - can't wait for the next compile. I just wish there was some solution to the LAVA thing!! Monsoontide. P.S. Did you want me to model a corroded / broken landing plaform for the JediStarfighter to sit on (Cos it needs to be flat) - or would you rather do that so you can make it more what you want? SunBurN
Yeah, that sounds good monsoontide. That way it will look right (level and all). I'll write more when I get to work. Gotta go, running late SunBurN
keo718
And I had a dark sky, but then I had suggestions for a stary sky...sigh...I guess I can't please everyone. I suggested the smoky sky even when I first beta tested. I imagine that in such an environment the sky would not be that clear. But either way. SunBurN
Yeah, I'm looking at trying to get either a custon skybox or maybe a custom shader of clouds, possibly moving (monsoontide's idea) which I think is a really good one. Anyway, working on it as we speak. I hope to have an update ready either this evening or tomorrow sometime. SunBurN
Leslie Judge
SunBurN, a question: how does the lava hurt you? You always write that you use a shader. That makes me think, the damage settings are in ther shader file, wich is a plain text file. If I'm right that can be changed to a smaller value, so you could make the lava as deep as needed. The other problem is, if you success with the above mentioned method, but the lava is a liquid, then you'll be not able to jump out of it as easy as now, just the way as from water. [end of thinking ]
SunBurN
Yes that's probably true, and I could probably change it, but then there is the fact you mentioned that the lava is just like water and you can't jump out of it which is true, plus, there is no way to light the inside of the lava/shader that I know of since light entities don't seem to work inside of the lava/shader so it's completely black once you enter the lava. So it's that combination of problems that has made me stay with what I have, which works, but doesn't seem like you're in lava. So if that's the only major flaw...I can live with it SunBurN
Rammage
The origins of Sarapin: It was created by LucasArts for Force Commander, and then subsequently used for Galactic Battlegrounds. While it's entirely possible that this is the planet that Obi and Anakin duel on, George Lucas has a history of shunning the expanded universe and going with his own ideas. Still, this is as good a planet as any I can think of.
monsoontide
According to BEHIND THE MAGIC - the conceptual artisit on the original films Ralph McQuarrie envisioned the Emperors throne room at the base of the Buildings on Coruscant in a lava filled cavern in the bedrock of the planet. And if you watch carefully during the Speeder chase During Episode 2 when Anakn dives the speeder down, you can see LAVA far below at the base of the buildings. So far as Coruscant goes, George seems to be sticking quite close to what Ralph initially envisioned and tends to reuse discarded ideas - so it's always a possibility a location like this could show up in Ep3. SiThLoRd><1000
I dont know. That was older ideas. Because Coruscant is really kind of chilly so they have solar mirrors that reflect sun light to strategical points of the planet. And they actually had ice caps. So I dont believe what we saw was actually "lava." (Lava probably would not be in such a cold area) It was probably gases and molten junk/ trash that was down there. They also have garbage processing in the lower parts of the planet. They built up from the bottom over time though. The lower part is the "crime world." A bunch of mutant animals that evolved wrong because of the chemicals and all live there as well. So it is just supposed to be all messed up. ( I dont think the Emperor lived next to boiling million degree liquid) But this is what I have read.
SunBurN
Ok, I'm not going to use Sarapin as the planet for the back drop of the final battle after all, instead I'm going to use Korriban which is an official sith home world featured in the upcoming Knights of the old republic game for the xbox and PC. It's always possible that Korriban could be the planet used for the back drop of the final battle in Ep3. Anyway, Here is a quote from the official site as to what planets are to be featured in KOTOR: Locations include Tatooine, Sith world of Korriban, Jedi Academy on Dantooine and Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. http://www.lucasarts.com/products/swkotor/splash.htm As for my progress, I'm currently waiting for a compile to finish, and if all goes well, there will be a few new surprises added and I will update the beta file tomorrow. And be on the lookout for the amazing prefab Monsoontide is working on of the Jedi Starfighter complete with rotatiing R2 unit! I hope to be adding that to my map soon! monsoontide
It'll be done in time for the weekend - Just a couple more bits to build some details to add in the ****pit and some texturing to do - maybe add some landing lights or something. SunBurN
Ok an update, just a few more things to do and I'll be releasing the duel verion of this map. Still having problems with the full version which is frustrating me to no end!! But I'm still working on it and I'm not going to give up! The duel version will also have FFa support although even though its pretty good size, it might be too small for weapons other than sabers only. I'm also going to add bot support to it before I release it. I'm also thinking of going back to my first map Hoth Jedi Academy and adding bot support to it and re-releasing it. But first, I have to finish these so, I'll get back to it. SunBurN
