If it's possible, i'd bet you have to edit your bg_pmove.c file in the game folder, one the functions inside there regulate which footstep sounds to make depending on the surface walked on (search for "footstep" in the file - it's part of a function name) and you'd need to determine how to identify which model the current player was using and escape the function if it's Maw.
