Tutorials that DON'T suck?

Every modeling tutorial I seem to read just assumes I know how to do everything, and they are completely useless. The one at Polycount is more like a FAQ on the process of making a model, it doesn't actually tell you HOW to do anything. The pages and pages of text could've been reduced to, "make model around skelaton, cap and segment, make heirarchy, UV map export all done bye".

Are there any tutorials that actually explain how to do things?

There's also a book by Paul Steed (made characters for Q2 & Q3) that explains how to make a low-poly game character and skinmap it.

I bought it a while ago and it describes the whole process in great detail. I got it at Amazon.

yup, the tutorial is there to explain the process not to teach you how to use the software. Theres several elements that I'm going to add to the tutorial once I get through some recent work but its pointless for me to write a tutorial showing you what a million other tutorial on the web already show.

they offer free training videos and also have a database of various tutorials.

I've always sworn by help files. The tutorials tell you what to do, then you look in the help files which tell you how to do it.

It takes a while, but no-one said modeling would be easy :)
