Grannen
What a problem! The two triangels have the same base and height but if I place the 4 inner figures from the top triangle as in the lower triangle, I get an extra blue square! Why? Who can be the first to solve the mystery? As usual - a gold coin to the winner. _____________________ and Grannen
DeadEyeDave
this is very weird.... lol man.. it really is impossible to see it! ( for me that is, i am a very bad maths knower.. )

raVen_image
In more specific terms, your slopes are different on each triangle. The first triangle is a straight line slope ... the second has a bulge in the hypotenuse that allows for one extra square. Put a straight edge to it and see. Grannen
Neil gets one silver dime raVen gets two silver dollars The gold coin needs a little extra explanation! _____________________ and Grannen
Natty
It's how you use the shapes that determines the space or non space. Also each triangle has a slightly different slope angle
brief
In simple terms, the second image is not a triangle. (Even if we ignore the missing square in the consideration of identifying the geometric shape.) Since the "hyptoneus" of the second image is now a convex line, it "takes up more space." __________________ "I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class. Grannen
The black and yellow triangels are not uniform, i.e. if you place the black one inside the yellow then their hypotenueses are not parallell. That is the reason why the hypotenuese of the large triangels is not a straight line. It gives you a slightly concave curve on the top triangle and a convex curve on the lower one and the area differance is one blue square. (Go five squares left and two down from the right top edge and compare the hypotenueses.) I guess that Natty and Brief can share a coin. _____________________ and Grannen
Natty
OMFG *passes out* I actually answered a mathamatic question right? I'm shocked I'm speechless
Kjølen
*watches Natty and Brief fight for the coin* *Walks up to both of them slowly, carefully...steals there sanity and runs* * Runs back and grabs the coin from both of there hands* *Runs again* it's like a puzzle... the pieces fit only when placed right. the small triangle and the big triangle switched, causing a larger space open in the bottom for the other two, leaving one extra space....
