Domes on Tatooine?

Is there a way to make those domes on buildings and also can you make domes on the floor to like on tatooine like this? movie_bg.jpg

 

I'm making a ffa in gtkradient thanks.

And also i have a texture folder which has textures i find off the internet and they show up but when i add a new one to my folder they don't show up only the ones that were in before do show. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to do them. Thanks

I am not sure why you would need shaders....explain....

 

 

Making a dome is easy--especially in GTK --take THAT all you RAD users = P

 

First drag a box on your grid--make it a little bit bigger than you want it to turn out as a dome.

 

then, in the curves menu, select "cone"

 

Your box will then turn into a very flat cone.

 

Go into a side view and press "v"

 

Now drag the middle point up a bit--to the height you want your dome.

 

Then drag the surrounding dots to the same height as your middle dot.

 

You should now have a dome--press cntrl+n to allign the textures

 

Now, if you want the dome visible on the outside AND the inside--you have to do this:

 

Select your dome and press space to clone it. Then place it so it overlaps your other dome.

 

Go into the curves menu again and select matrix/invert.

 

You dome will now be visible from inside and out.

 

 

If you still are stuck (cause, yes, I know, I suck at explaining things)

 

you might want to ask around for a tut--I don't know any on hand that tell how to make domes.....

First of all, that's exactly the same way you would do that in JK2Radiant (don't forget that GTKrad and JK2rad or for the most part the same program)

Second, I would think it would be easier to just thicken the cone, instead of cloning it and then dealing with all that inverting the matrix crap. Just select that thicken option and thats it, you're done with it.

 

Both ways will work, but IMO, the "thicken" method is simpler.

Thickening almost triples the amount of polygons drawn.

 

I think making domes in GTK is easier because of the 3d view navigation--and when you select a patch mesh in GTK--that dand annoying red box doesn't come up like in JKRAD

 

And no--they are NOT almost the same program.

 

If you want to argue--I am always game.

Uh yes they, are. It's kinda like Pepsi and Coke, while there is an obvious difference in packaging and taste, many people recognize that they're pretty much the same, while many others will only drink coke and not pepsi and still others will only drink pepsi and not coke. I myself will drink whichever is availabe to me at the time.

 

Yes, there are obvious differences between the 2 programs, but not nearly enough to consider them completely different applications.

Uh nobody's trying to argue with you, just stating a difference in method and opinion. Relax

 

 

Edit: Oh and you can set the amount in which it will thicken.

But for domes--It really is pointless to thicken because you do not see the thickened side and it triples polygons.

 

I am the kind of person which considers Coke and Pepsi 2 different products--I am Coke freak--and I will not drink Pepsi--I think there is a big difference = P

 

 

And thickening and inverting require the same amount of steps...I don't see why you said it would be easier to thicken it...

He's right, though. JK2Radiant is based off Q3Radiant which is based off QERadiant, and GTKRadiant is based off the Q3Radiant source code, and has numerous enhancements and I think is overall a superior peice of software.
