Server Crashing Due to Ban String

I have been having problems with my server crashing becuase my ban string is to long.

 

I have heard that it may be possible to use a separate banning config file.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problems alot. I finally stopped using ADDIP and I just write down the IP, go to a reverse IP lookup and ban the netblock range for the violator. This seems cleaner and prevents the hated DHCP users from jumping right back in.

 

in my server.cfg i have

 

seta g_filterban 1

exec banlist

 

 

Then in the banlist.cfg I have the g_banips cvar with the IP ranges for all the naughty players. I have noted that if I add an IP and also have his IP range banned then it apparently un-bans the whole block.

Another thing that happened to me was that the ban list became too long and the server wouldnt run until I removed some IP's from it.

 

That could explain your crashing problem. A solution would be to carefully look through for any duplicated IP's and save the cfg again.

Unless you use a external banlist file, your limited in game to a 256 byte string for g_banips.

Then of course go beyond that and dreaded crash will occur.
