txa1265
This isn't meant to *decide* the best, merely a subjective posting of the five (or perhaps more) best things you've heard in the past year. Format: # Artist - Title (Genre) For me: 1. Bill Laswell - Cyclops (Ambient Jazz) 2. Jonas Hellborg & Shawn Lane - Personae (Fusion) 3. John Scofield - Uberjam (Jazz) 4. Pat Metheny Group - Speaking of Now (Jazz) 5. Chick Corea - Past, Present & Futures (Jazz) ... I can't stop at 5 ... 6. Herbie Han**** - Future2Future (Jazz/ Hip-hop) 7. John Williams - Attack of the Clones Soundtract (Soundtrack) My iPod has been mainly playing these recently, which is what prompted this. What about you ... ? Divine Spirit
I've decided not to use genres on my list because a lot of music cannot be simply put under a genre. But most of the music on my list is indie/rock. Here's the list of my 5 favourite albums released in the last year: 1 Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head 2 Doves - The Last Broadcast 3 Muse - Hullabaloo 4 The Coral - The Coral 5 The Strokes - Is This It (released exactly a year ago today!) 'Alternative' is a constant misnomer, as groups like the Who and U2 were once 'alternative' ... My thought is always to learn a bit from people on this list ... txa1265
Sorry for the double post ... it seems that the afternoons get awful busy on the servers, and I hit a refresh, which ended up double posting. I was thinking more about genres last night while taking out the trash ... as my primary love is Jazz, and more specifically avant garde jazz, there are few things I hate as much as having someone ask what kind of music I like, me replying Jazz, and them saying 'oh, like Kenny G' ... I have to take a deep breath, and say 'no' in as polite a way as possible - just trying to point out that Kenny G doesn't represent what Jazz music is about in any productive or positive way ... Oh well ...
