Surfnshannon
Alright - I"m new to the xp crap. I'm sooo frustrated its beyond frustration. And it doesn't add to the fact that I'm hormonal...anyways!!! I have OFFICE XP Small Business/ my OS is Xp as well. Well I needed OFFICE XP PRO for this class I am taking - so I tried to install it. Well what I had was the upgrade and so it wouldn't upgrade the XP that I already had. So I uninstalled my version of the OFFICE XP SMALL BUISNESS and installed Win 2000. From there I then installed the OFFICE XP PRO UPGRADE. Since this copy is already on two computers. I can't install it on the computer. So it said...you can only use this 49 more times. Got that??? So then I decided well I will delete this OFFICE XP PRO from my computer and install the OFFICE XP SMALL BUSINESS that came with the computer. So used add/remove programs to uninstall the XP PRO and then "TRIED" to install the XP SMALL BUS from the CD ROM. It came up with this error.... Error 1612. The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. This comes up when I try to add/remove from the control panel. It comes up when I try to install it from the cd rom. Its frustrating as all hell. Now I got the "knowledge database" and found the error. It says to To resolve this issue, use the Microsoft Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to remove the stand-alone programs. To do this, follow these steps: But it only says it for Win 2k, Nt. Its does not have anything for XP!!!! So how am I supposed to clean the registry with XP??? Anybody know?? :::Rips out all hair::::
WolfmanNCSU
Hmmm, I am not sure that I am reading the entire problem correctly. First of all the 50 execution thing is normal. Microsoft and its battle against piracy are making it so you must activate your software products to use them. WinXP will only run 30 days before you must activate it. MS keeps track of when the products are activated so you can't just make a lot of copies and send one to all your friends and then activate it on all machines. Office XP will only run 50 executions (when ever you start one of the office products). Simply activate these products and then you will have unlimited use of the full product. Note: There are ways to activate these products so MS does not know about, but I am not of liberty to discuss such things on the forums. In addition, the are corporate editions of products which also do not even require activation. But once again, I am not of liberty to speak of these either. Just something to keep an eye open. ------------- The ability to work with you registry can provide some real power to your PC. You can always run regedit.exe if you know what you are doing, and manually edit your registry. Also, there is a free program called "RegCleaner" which does a really nice job fixing and removing unneed crap from you registry. Give it a look see. ------------- I am not sure if I really answered your questions or not, but I hope these help you out some. If you are still having problems, let me know and I can see how I can assist more.
