FuzzyMasta
I know this should be in the "tech" forum and it is, though it hasn't even been looked at there (apart from me) so I have posted it here as well. If anyone could help me with my problem I would really appreciate it, else I will have to take the game back and I don't really want to cos it looks really good My system spec is: 1.2 AMD Athlon 512 MB RAM Geforce 3 64 MB DDR RAM Creative PCI 128 Sound Blaster OS: Windows ME I have just got this game, I have the "Saga" version which is the original game plus the Clone missions. When I play the game there is something wrong with the sound, I keep hearing static. I have tried everything from the troubleshooting guide which came with the game but to no avail. I have the latest drivers for all my hardware. Can anyone help?
lukeiamyourdad
Whoa it must be some strnge problem. -Try re-installing it first. -Check if your sound card has any problems. -If it doesn't work than I dunno what is wrong with it.
FuzzyMasta
Dude thx for the help, alas I did already try reinstalling it (3 times) but the problem wasn't fixed
lukeiamyourdad
What is your game version(1.0 or 1.1)? If it is 1.0 you could try downloading the update patch at this site: http://www.swgalacticbattlegrounds.com It might solve your problem
FuzzyMasta
Cheers mate but the "saga" version comes with the latest 1.1 update. Other things I have tried are; downgrading my sound card to "emulation" lowering the wave volume and lowering the detail in the game, none of them do anything. There is slighty less static when I turn the game music off, the game music sounds so good though :|
Crazy_dog no.3
What does hearing static mean?
FuzzyMasta
It means the sound is very fuzzy.
Guest DarthMaulUK
Hmmm..interesting problem. Firstly, I would check with Creative for any updates for their sound drivers. I have put a direct link to the page for driver updates for your Sound card AND your OS: Windows ME. http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=17&OS=11 Check with these. If this doesnt solve the issue, I will email Lucasarts and see if they can help. DMUK
FuzzyMasta
Sorry Darth Maul but the above drivers didn't help with my problem, nothing has changed I would appreciate you contacting Lucasarts on my behalf and explaining whats wrong, though I don't have much time to wait for a reply as I only have a limited time to take this game back and get a refund. I'd say I have about 7 days to do so.

Guest DarthMaulUK
Lucasarts do take their time in replying to emails. One last thing could be to re-install your Direct X sound driver..or download it again and over write it. I take it sound is still ok with other games? FuzzyMasta
All my other games work fine that includes Unreal Tourny 2003 which is a pretty recent game, infact I have never had a software/hardware conflict in the 2 years I have had my computer so I really dont know why the sound is so bad on this game. I will try the Direct X reinstallation. I really don't want to take this game back, from what I have heard it's pretty sweet and I'm a huge fan of Westwood RTS, this looks very similar. Guest DarthMaulUK
There is a good chance that your copy of Galactic Battlegrounds:SAGA has a problem on it. Maybe it could be worth swapping the game over for another copy just incase. Make sure the Manager of the store marks your receipt to allow you an extra few days. FuzzyMasta
I took back the game yesterday to change it for another copy, which I took home. I reinstalled Direct X 8.1 then installed SAGA again. There's no change though, the problem is still there. It seems I will just have to put up with it unless Lucasarts can find a solution. I will also be keeping the game because it was quite a longwinded exercise to get it changed (about 15 minutes) let alone get a refund. *Frustrated*
Kryllith
What you might want to consider doing is see if you can find someone with the non-Saga GB and CC disks. Install those onto your computer and see if the problem continues. (Since you already own Saga there shouldn't be any problem with this legally). Then you can see if it's a problem with the Saga collection or with your puter... Kryllith

Savagelees
I hate to bring up an old topic... but now that I have an account on this forum, I can finally post the only technical problem that I have with the game. I remember reading this post, and thought I would post it here. I have the same exact problem, and have tried everything I can think of to resolve it. The only thing I can do is play without the background music, but I like the music, so thats a real problem with me. The static is really annoying, if anyone has thought of a solution, please help me. I do know that I have had the same hardware when I was playing the game under Windows 98, and had no problem. I've had this game for two years, and didn't have any trouble with GB till I installed Windows XP Please Help.
lukeiamyourdad
This must be a compatibility problem with XP then... Nothing can solve this except a patch(which I don't think will ever come out).
Sithmaster_821
Maybe try uninstalling XP and installing another version. Currently, I'm ticked off at my Windows ME, cause it makes my pointer in AoM go black and white
Savagelees
nanh... I like XP. I can deal with the problem for now, but un- installing XP has always been an option. Thanks for the suggestion.
swphreak
Ya, I like XP too, but right now i dont get any BackMusic while playing. i know it used to work. Maybe I gotta check to see if I accidenly turned it off in game. Have you ried that? Going to the game's sound options and changed stuff til it worked? Praetorian
This is one yet another Microsoft problem. Many pre-WindowsXP games had problems with XP until the game makers came out with a patch. If LA came out with a new patch for SWGB, then it would probably be fixed. swphreak
But I thought CC was XP compatible.
Praetorian
It probably is, but they can't test every possible computer configuration. The sound card, motherboard, and many other things can cause this kind of problem. It is probably a combination of your sound card and XP. The programing world can be very complex. Sound can work great in one game and not in another. Just another joy of computers. I wish I knew the answer, but sadly I don't.
