AoM is amazing.

Sorry if this is wrong forum but i thought it'd be better addressed to people posting here.

Basically i've got AoM and i love it. Everything i was expecting and much more. I've only played single player so far so i can't comment on ESO.

First game i played i was Posiedon against Loki on Easy setting and Ghost Lake map. I was amazed how quick everything was. Takes like 20 seconds to build a worker and you can easily have 25 pop at 4 mins. I screwed up a bit not building a temple and i got classical quite late. Then i went to t4 and massed loads of units only 2 find no army at enemys base :p First game was great fun. Played a few games on Moderate but then had 2 go out for the night with some mates.

Pros:

Speed of game, very nice. Can quite easily have massive econ with raiding army by 20 mins

MU's - They're preety cool, especially like Collosus. He's a killer :p Niddhogg is cool too big flying dragon hehe :)

GP's - Earthquake and Meteor = amazing. Some other like Sentinel and Lure are both really cool. Others like ceasefire can be usefull too. I haven't found any unusefull ones yet.

Relics - Some are good like cheaper MU's and some are quite useless :p

Infinite Fishing and farming is cool.

pop limit - can get really high

Cons:

Favor - Takes too long to gather so far, maybe that's just because i'm a newbie :p

Norse - So hard to play, Newbie opinion again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone should get this game, as much as i love SWCC, Aom blows it out the water amazing. I'd give it 95% , Thank you ES :)

Anyone else got it yet?

Graphics: Awesome

Gameplay: Very balanced, especially compared to AoK and AoE.

SP Performance: Good, as long as you have a really fast computer. On a SP 11-AI large map game I noticed some traces of lag, so I think people like Sith who have pentium 3's are in for an unpleasant surprise.

MP Performance: Not-so-good. If one person has 56k, it lags periodically for everyone. If one person has anything less than a HIGH Pentium 3, it lags for everyone (not often though). On large maps these problems are vastly amplified.

Overall it is very fun and has GREAT gameplay, but half of the MP games I have had were marred by lag often enough to reduce the fun.

I posted over at MFO about AoM.

It seems to me to be almost like Populous: The Beginning, which was in 3d and although the graphics are better in AoM, they are far from brilliant.

Naturally, this all depends on your graphics card but Im not the kind of person who spends over £300 on a graphics card! LOL

Building quicker certainly is a bonus and the pace of the game moves along well, however the beauty of the Age Of Empire series was the fact that no matter what sort of spec computer you had, you could play it. Not sure about AoM on that front.

It certainly is a pleasant game and the water effects are stunning but I think PC Gamer in the UK have got a little too excited by giving it 90% (maybe cos they have the first exclusive review)

Also, game AI does suffer at times.... I had 8 horses stuck behind a wall, with the exit just next to it..odd that one.

A good game not a great game. I would try and stick to playing Battlegrounds but it is getting harder and harder to find a decent game of RM. The Zone has done a great job in killing off SWGB with all the hackers that flood and lag up the zone.

AoM doesnt run well on anything under p3, 256 ram, and TNT2, esp. if your in it for the graphics.

Personally i find AoM>SWGB (in purely gameplay), but not by much. I will probably still play SWGB occasionally, but i agree that the zone has massacred the online experiance. If only LA had battle.net or ESO...:(

Did I say MP performance is not-so-good? I mean MP performance is HORRIBLE! AWFUL! Me and Sith had a MP game, 2v2, and no one had 56k, I made sure. THE WHOLE GAME Sith had a red circle and a turtle next to his name in the score. One person (Sith) with a HIGH PENTIUM 3 lagged the entire game. AoM is clearly ahead of its time. Every time a battle started there was lag. Whenever a MU threw someone there was a lag spike.

Did I say anything less than a high pentium 3 lags? I mean anything less than a moderate pentium 4 lags. I hope Bulzye's 1.3 gHz pentium 4 can run AoM without lagging. I will repeat that AoM is WAY ahead of it's time.

Sith... all I can say is I told you so.

But the graphics do look wonderful on my GeForce 4 TI4600 and my 18", 250 cd/m2, 300:1 contrast LCD. :)

Sith, may I suggest you turn the graphics to low detail? And lower the resolution? It will look like EE *shudders* but what else can you do? I'm certainly not playing another AoM MP with you if it's going to lag like that. It was almost unplayable.

AU he ws talking about the real game. I agree that ESO tends to be quite laggy. In the editor, i was able to have a battle between at least 100 units on both sides plus a meteor shower and it only lagged slightly. In MP, you cant have a battle with 25 units on both sides with out lag. It wasnt nearly as bad as Simwiz put it though (he forgets the 2 frames per sec alpha and never had the 1 frame per minute demo) and he neglected to say it only started lagging after during the post-mythic clashes and that i wasnt the only one lagging. MP is still playable (the alpha was playable) and quite fun. And its was my 128 RAM that lagged the game, not my p3 or my TNT2 Pro graphicis card (both of which can run high graphics, low resolution just fine). Oh well, getting 256 RAM in 2 months. Hes just bragging because he used to have an Acer

Someone's a bit overconfident in ES, aren't they? I have the real game. I am also talking about the real game, and how despite its requirements of P2 450 mHz, 128 mb RAM, it cannot run well on Sith's high pentium 3 with 128 mb RAM. ES severely underestimated the sys requirements.

Sith... if you thought our game was laggy... today I was playing 1v1 normal map vs someone with a 475 mHz processor. Even their dsl connection couldn't rescue this game. The first 2 minutes of gametime took nearly 10 minutes of realtime. I left out of boredom before I even had 10 villies. And guess what? His computer had more than the minimum specs, and a fast dsl connection to top it off.

Sith, our game was every bit as bad as I said. Maybe you are used to lag and slowness on your computer and didnt notice the lag as much, but that game was lagging HORRIBLY.

I am amazed at how many people get these nice fast computers (for their time), but have almost no RAM. RAM is so easy to upgrade! Even bulzye's P4 has only 128 MB RAM.

Sith, that means we have to wait 2 months for another MP game. :(

I can just imagine Sith getting the RAM upgrade and the game still running poorly, so he finds out he needs a processor upgrade, a graphics card upgrade, a sound card upgrade, and another RAM upgrade... :D

Lag can be many things

even somrthimes when somebody lives on a far distans

or if somebody is downloading or if you yust had done your pc some big work

i had lag in gb very much

and i have a AMD Athlon XP 1800

Geforce 4 mx

256mb ddr

only whit my frend

and he has about the same specs

You lag with those specs? Maybe its because of either yours or your friends internet, because i run SWGB no problem with more lower specs (and thats MP both TCP/IP and through the zone).

Just played Loki, and i take back what i said about too specifically focused. Sure, he is quite narrowminded, and it requires a sh@t load of hersirs, but he aint bad (i love his god choices; the three gods Odin doesnt get, Loki gets and they are great!). That create myth unit thing was awesome, i got trolls when i needed infantry killing and eihanjars when i was attacking buildings (pure luck mind you). He doesnt beat Odin or Set, but id say he comes in third. I missed a lot of Odins bonuses as Loki (a healing spring doesnt make up for free healing anywhere and everywhere) and i wished i had Odin's hill fort units (Legendary Jarls are my favorite non Mu unit).

1 - The red turtle was by Sith so it was his internet or his computer.

2 - He lives about a 15 minute drive from my house and I was hosting the game. We both have high-speed internet (though mine is faster :)).

3 - GB only lagged slightly on my old 366 mHz celeron, 32 MB RAM Acer. With your specs you shouldn't lag at all, unless you have 56k.
