Darth Vader III Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Well I just got my first modeling program, it's Milkshape 3D 1.64. I think that these are really stupid questions for you modelers but hear them out: How do I connect the Vertex dots? How do I put a skin on the model? How do I put the model in the game that it works? Where could I get other modeling programs like Gmax (that don't expire in 30 days)? Please help me out! Thanx! BTW Moderator: If this isn't the right place where to post this thread please move it to the right place. Thank you!
SettingShadow Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Here you can get a free version of Gmax.
Darth Vader III Posted November 3, 2002 Author Posted November 3, 2002 Thanks! Now what about the other questions?
hansmoleman Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Look in the sticky up top, it has links to great tuts on modeling with milkshape, but here are some answers if you didnt figure out how to do it by now to connect vertex dots you just hit the face button and click on the vertexes you wanna connect. to skin in milkshape you gotta first make a new material, so goto materials tab and hit new. you can rename it whatever u want, and also hit the <none> and itll make you choose what image you want to use. to apply the skin to a group if your model simply select the group goto the materials tab and hit assign, to do uvmapping select the group you wanna uvmap, make sure it has a material attached to it and hit ctrl+T or goto window and click on texture coordinate editor i actually like this program more than Gmax i find its not as constricting and has almost as many usefull (to me) features as Gmax.
Matt-Liell Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 to skin just pick the section of your model u want a skin on and create a jpg file for it. then test it to see what it looks like in milkshape. this way u may not even have to skinmap it!
Darth Vader III Posted November 4, 2002 Author Posted November 4, 2002 Thanks everybody! But one thing bothers me - you have to register the gmax and I'm working with a non-internet computer! So how could I use it without registring? Thanks!
Matt-Liell Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 i just left the fields blank and pressed ok and it works for me!
Darth Vader III Posted November 4, 2002 Author Posted November 4, 2002 Well my problem is that I can't even access the site(!!!) When is push register button the internet wizard popups. Then I can either choose: a) connect (what is NOT possible because I don't have internet on that computer, or... b) cancel, that just quits everything Do you know how I could skip the registration part or where I could get don't-have-to-register (works automatically) product? Or some else modeling program (I have Milkshape)?
Matt-Liell Posted November 4, 2002 Posted November 4, 2002 go to http://www.discreet.com and look for th gmax link, it should work if not ill tell u a more complicated way k?
Darth Vader III Posted November 5, 2002 Author Posted November 5, 2002 That's where I got the gmax (v1.1). Ok tell me the more difficult way. Thnx!
Matt-Liell Posted November 5, 2002 Posted November 5, 2002 oh, u mean u dont want version 1.1? u want a better version?
Darth Vader III Posted November 5, 2002 Author Posted November 5, 2002 Well, that too. What I really want to do is to get it working on a non-internet connected computer (mine). Or some other modeling programs (that work with JK II). And Yadu, can you please tell me the more complicated way to do it.
Matt-Liell Posted November 5, 2002 Posted November 5, 2002 go to http://www.westwood.com go to downloads, then go to RENEGADE. Under this go to resources i think and click on editing tools then on gmax. this is how i got it originally before i unistalled it (then i got it again) hope this helps
Darth Vader III Posted November 7, 2002 Author Posted November 7, 2002 Thnx! I'll check it out right away!
Darth Vader III Posted November 7, 2002 Author Posted November 7, 2002 Still thanks but it's the same site (discreet.com). Maybe I can't use it on a computer without internet? Maybe there is no Gmax that doesn't require registration over the internet? Well must keep looking.
