Installation problem, please help

Hi everyone,

I recently reformatted my PC, and have been trying to re-install JKII for a couple days now. However, the installation gets up to 5%, in the middle of installing the assets1.pk3 file, and I get a "Component Transfer Error" message, and the installation stops. I have tried copying and pasting the assets1.pk3 file directly from the CD to my HD, but I get the same type of error. Any suggestions and/or solutions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

This may be a stab in the dark but;

I've found some errors with other installtions elsewhere, which state; component transfer error occurs during installation when the installation program is unable to decompress a file necessary for the installation. To resolve this issue, install while in Safe Mode.

So give that a try :confused:

Boot into safe mode and try to install it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Hekx, but the damned thing still doesn't work. However, today I noticed this very thin, small scratch on the cd, one that looks to be right on a data track, and is about 1/5 the circumference of the disk. I'll bet that's what's been giving me all the trouble. Any suggestions on how to remove the scratch/get a new CD/just be able to play the damned game again? My saber skills are getting rusty...

!!!!!! Dude.... same thing happened to me. Except, it froze when I was installing assets3.pk3. Same thing, I looked on the cd and noticed the smallest scratch.... very hard to see. If it isn't a scratch... it could be a installation history error. I emailed a lucas tech guy about this before this is what he told me;

"- Open the My Computer window, go to VIEW on the menu bar, and select Folder

Options.

- Select the View tab, and click on the option to Show All Files.

- Open the C drive, then open the Program Files folder, and open the

InstallShield Installation Information folder.

- Within this folder there is a folder called

{8681B1E6-CD96-46EF-9065-CE0D1085ED99}

- Right-click this folder and choose to delete it from your harddrive.

(Note: Other folders may have similar names, so make sure that you properly

identify the correct folder before you delete it.)"

If that doesn't work, he told me about what to do to replace it;

"There is a 90-day warranty on all

of our games. During this period you may return a defective CD and receive a

free replacement (please send a dated copy of the proof of purchase). If it

has been more than 90 days since the date of purchase you can send in the

defective CD plus a check or money order to cover replacement costs

(shipping & handling is already included). We charge $5 for a replacement

CD. Send the defective CD and payment (if out-of-warranty) to:

LucasArts Entertainment Co. LLC

Attn: Product Support

P.O. Box 10307

San Rafael, CA 94912

Please attach a short note specifying that you need a replacement of the

item sent with your name and address also appearing on the note."

So, if the 90 day warrenty is still up, then you get a free one if not, you gotta pay 5 measly bucks :). What I did though, was replace it at Electronics Boutique. They're pretty good when it comes to cd defects.
