nova_wolf
The exchange between Yoda and Dooku and the New Jedi Order's Jedi of the Old Republic Vegere, I have been pondering as only a small green alien can... What truely makes you a Jedi: Saber Skills or Knowledge of the Force ?
C'jais
What has this to do with NJO? Anyway: If you're skilled with the force, you're skilled with the saber. To be skilled with the saber means to predict incoming attacks with the force. You cannot be a Jedi without understanding and skill with the force. SettingShadow
^ What he said. Of course If I had to choose between the knowledge of the force I choose, saber fighting. Cause I do belive you can be good with a saber without the force, just a bit more difficult.
nova_wolf
Umm - don't know - just being open the the force doesn't automatically mean you'll be good w/ a saber. As noted in other threads, there are Jedi traits that are better than saber skills, such as Cilghal and her healing techniques. That is Knowledge of the Force - understanding it to the point where you can find a new way to utilaise it's power to aid those you protect. But as far as I am aware, she has no saber, let alone saber skills.

nova_wolf
Originally posted by vegietto i think to be a great jedi u should have both like yoda and mace had The question was what makes a Jedi, not what makes a Jedi great. Subtle difference, although i suppose one question will eventually lead to the other. All I DO know is that 'war does not make one great'
Darth Scythe
Full understanding and respect for the Force is what makes you a true Jedi. All Jedi mostly use there lightsabers for protection not fighting, So the darkside of the Force is the only reason a Jedi would make a lightsaber or anyweapon for protection otherwise all Jedi's would most likely be like monks. Reb Starblazer
Actually... What makes a Jedi a Jedi is the Jedi code and ideals, not the Force, not a Lightsabre. A Jedi, is someone who follows the Jedi code, swears his/her life in the protection of others, to keep the peace, blah blah blah, yackety yak yak... It's not knowledge of the Force or a Lightsabre that makes a Jedi a Jedi, it's the life they lead. There are Jedi Librarians as was shown in Episode II, there are Jedi Negotiators, there are probably even beings in the Jedi order that don't even have a Lightsabre, but they are all comitted to the Order, and the life of a Jedi. Look at Yoda for example. Up until Episode II, no one had ever even seen him with a Lightsabre, yet alone use one, but Yoda is(and was long before Episode II) considered the Jedi. You can be Force senstive, and use a Lightsabre, but you're not necessarily a Jedi, you're just someone that happens to be able to use the Force and owns a Lightsabre... *throws his 0.02 credits on the table and walks out of thread*
