Natty
Melbourne doesn't have any landmarks- does the Rialto count? It's the tallest building in the southern hemisphere THE MCG IS A LANDMARK IN ITS OWN RIGHT! and how the ACB would wanna take cricket away from the *HOME* of cricket is beyond me- just because we happen to like throwing things up during the mexican wave? And people like to streak naked across the pitch? It's fuuuuuuuuuun. Fuuuuuuuuuuuun I tell you! OK ummmm other landmarks. Does the casino count? Oh and the Yarra Flinders Street Station? Oh and the trams? Oh and ummmmmmm the Art Center?

Natty
First pic- Ayres Rock. A dingo supposedly stole a baby there, we all know that the stupid slag of a mother hacked her baby up into tiny pieces with a pair of scissors and blamed the dingo. Located in the middle of Australia. Haven't been there, want to but I don't like hot weather. Can get up to temperatures like 45oC during Summer and freezing temperatures in winter. No thankyou I'll pass Second pic- Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built in the 1930's by some guy I don't know his name. Of course many people died blah blah blah. Has been subjected to terrorist threats. A National icon and looks quite pretty covered in fireworks Third Pic- Sydney Operah House. Quite important and apperantly one of the largest opera houses in the world. Opened in 1970something by Queen ElizabethII. Has been subjected to terrorist threats Fourth Pic- Rialto Towers Melbourne. The largest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Has an oberservation deck up the top. On a clear day you can see to the Dandenong Mountians, all the way down Port Phillip Bay oh and you can also see Geelong on the other sidem (don't have a map with me) been up there too scared to go again, I don't like the idea of a plane flying into it Also been subject to terrorist threats Fith pic- Flinders Street Station in Melbourne. Apperantly the busiest railway station in the Southern Hemisphere (I find it difficult to believe but oh well) was built in 18something or other and is the centerpiece to Melbourne's city loop train service Found out recently that the funky dome thingie is on the verge of collapse so that needs to be fixed. Down the road we have Southbank/the Victorian Art Center. Across the road is the totally depressing Federation Square (your lucky I can't find a pic its horrible) oh and on the opposite corner we have St Pauls Cathederal which was recently renovated. Has probably been subject to terrorist threats
HelenW
Weird, I also thought Phil was talking about Northampton in England. We are also a college town, but I wouldn't call it small. It's more like a large town/ small city. No one seems to have ever heard of Northampton, but suddenly 2 of us Northamptonians are members of the forum, now we have an American twin!!! There is absolutely nothing in Northampton. We have to go to Milton Keynes to find decent clothes shops. We have a miss selfridge, warehouse and river island, but no GAP, how can a town have no GAP!!! and no french Connection either. Neil, where do you buy your clothes? The situation is much worse for blokes. We are lucky though and have 2 big cinemas, so you never have to worry about not getting tickets, and both are only about 20 mins drive from my house. We have a university College and the countries largest outdoor market, that sells fruit and veg, and cheap nasty clothes, that fall to bits and are rip offs of brand name clothes. Are football team is pants, but i think the rugby team is ok, although I don't really know much about sport. But despite all that it's not a bad place to live. The people are mostly nice, and certainly in my part of town you don't get much crime or vandalism. The kids play cricket on the green, and it's all very english!! The eastern district is rough though, and you don't go there alone, and you lock your car doors while your still in it!!! hehe, but I guess all towns have areas like that. I've lived here all my life, and its the sort of place, whever you go, you always see people you know. I think in big cities, it can become isoated and impersonal. Joshi
little known fact about northampton that you probably won't care about. the fruit and veg market helen told you about is set upon cobble stones. northampton is the opnly place in england to actually have any cobblestones anymore. not that interesting, but this is a very unfamous town, so i'm holding onto it (Des O'Conner doesn't count). the Cinema in sol central is a five minute walk from my house, so i have no problem seeing movies (i may see the two towers again on saturday, just because i can). and you asked where i buy my clothes. well, most of the time i go to the milton keyns shopping center because it's bigger than the grosevnor adn the peacok put together, but i spen most of my time in town anyway, so i do what i can with what we've got (a lot of mens clothes places have cropped up recently so i'm not worried) oh, and of course there's matalan. okay, not a good example, but i have to mention them, i work there (sun, all day, if you ever want to see me, i'll be the doofus behind the till making all the mistakes .) Faith
There are cobbled streets in the town centre of middlesbrough, and the council arent allowed to dig it up as it is a kind of landmark thing, there was a big protest about it! There are also some weird bricked roads, where the bricks are marked by the companys who made them... they arent allowed to be took up either. So there are more towns than northampton to have cobblestones! Also stockton (situated next to middlesbrough) not only being the first railway link was where the match was invented! Not a very interesting fact... but still...
