Crazy_Ivan
I have some of my map done. I seal it off with caulk, save it, and click BSP FullVis. After 2 minutes I check my GameData/Base/Maps folder and find a .LIN file, a .BAK file, but no .BSP FILE! I dont know what to do but all my maps have this problem and this 2nd time ive reinstalled.... Thanks for the help
Leslie Judge
If there's a .lin file that means your map has a leak. Since the search function is active I suggest using it to find out how to fix leaks rather than writing it down again.
james_152
Make sure you are reading the tutorials and are following the ways to prevent leaks. If all else really fails, you can always line up a box-worth of brushes around your map. Its a horrible hack, but if your learning and debugging stuff, its not bad to use as a beginner, until you figure out what your problem(s) are with the map
wedge2211
Ack, no, never big caulk boxes around the map! It's easy to find leaks: When your map finishes compiling, if Radiant is still open, a big red line will appear on the map. Find the start of the line in the 3D view and follow it until it passes through the leak spot. There is probably no BSP file because you set your prefs to halt the compile process when the compiler finds a leak.
Crazy_Ivan
Thanks, now to find the leak.....you guys are very helpful...unlike the idiots at JK2Files.com heh. Anyways thanks again
Crazy_Ivan
Sorry to beat a dead horse but uh... Why do I keep getting a .PRT file instead of a .BSP file?
Leslie Judge
A .PRT file is for the second (VIS) process of the compile. The compiler creates it at the first stage. So it's OK you get it. Since you don't get a .BSP file I have to ask: are you sure that all the leaks are fixed in your map?
Crazy_Ivan
Well I used to have a red line showing where there were leaks whenever there were some.... Now there is nothing...Im positive I got all the leaks LJ
Leslie Judge
One idea. Can be wrong. You say you got those red lines. This makes me think you got them automatically, so you use JK2Radiant wich uses sof2map to compile. Sometimes sof2map can crash during compile. If you run it from the BSP menu, then you can't see what happening. Run the BSP novis nolight. After that check the junk.txt file in your TEMP directory to see it is finished or not. (The .prt file is created before the .bsp file is written.) If the compile is finished, then no idea why you don't have the .bsp file. If it crashes then try using q3map2 to compile your map.
