I can't say that I've really noticed any particular lack of grammatical skills from anyone in the thread besides Faith and Al. [/b]

One will start talking in recieved pronunciation, or standard english.

As i do an A level in english i'm sure i have grammatical skills, probably more than the average 17 year old. But because i choose to "abbreviate" and not check my grammar, syntax and lexical fields on a forum, this makes me "lack" in grammatical skills?

Yes, it seems so.

Al is from brasil... don't think their native tongue is english... although he speaks it quite well.

I like this bit of philosophy form the Kiwibonga.com message board code of conduct:

1. Learning to write before coming

u, r, im, luv, cuz and sup are NOT words. Abbreviating words is, for sure, the best way to type fast, but one thing needs to be said about that. This is not a chat room, therefore, there is no need to type fast.

Second of all, it's extremely irritating to try and decipher what people are trying to say, so write in full words, please.

Third of all, writing fast like that makes you sound like what you probably are, a 13 year old retard (retard as in the insult, not mentally challenged, because those guys CAN write full sentences) who has very little experience in anything.

Fourth of all... Whether or not you like to seem "ghetto", trying to give the impression that "u talk lik on teh hood, bro" doesn't transcribe well. You're not black, live with it, you're making an ass out of yourself and you seem downright disrespectful, and people probably won't pay attention to anything you say until you finally get banned from the site.

And fifth of all, sure, not putting capitals at the beginning of sentences and not putting periods at the end of sentences that are followed by a line break can happen accidentally, BUT MAKE SURE THE SENTENCES YOU WROTE MAKE SENSE, PUT PUNCTUATION, SAVE EVERYONE A MINUTE. Thank you.

Oh and... When using multiple exclamation points in a row (although 3 should be enough), don't release the shift key too soon...

I personally have fantastic spelling, grammar, punctuation, and an abundant vocabulary. But I use these when typing important reports, stories, resumes, and other various things that require these attributes. When I come to a message board, I usually try to type as I would talk, so that it isn't a fake me. Ya know? I also enjoy putting repetative periods at the end of my sentences to indicate pauses...I just sometimes don't say the 'ng' sound in words like "nothing." So when somebody is like "whats up?" I would reply "nothin much" or "nothin' much." Why? Because thats how I say it...I dunno <---another example. So I'm not trying to give the impression that i'm a hoody...its just how I talk bud. As does faith when she says "fink" for "think"...I rightly understand her, though I laugh...cuz its funny to me :) Or when you (merc) types "kthx" I know thats "ok, thanks." Even though thats not really how you pronounce it....you are abbreviating. And I think some abbreviations are ok....i say "cya" all the time, its habit....some of them are quite annoying, especially overused. But whatever....I don't think its necessary to pick at everyone's typing, unless it takes a scientific team to decipher it. :)
