Lt. Havoc
Greetings everyone. This thread will outline mod idea I've wanted to share for a long time. I'd like to see a full conversion mod of Jedi Knight 2 and have have it be deal with the Marvel universe. JK2's player animations are the best and the jedi movements very much mimic that of a superhero. The game modes would be: Anarchy: every character for himself Heroes vs. Villains: self explanatory Secret Wars: up to 4 teams versus each other Hero vs. Villain domination: Domination like in UT Characters: Cyclops, Hawkeye, Iceman, Dr. Doom, Storm, Punisher, Deadpool, Black Panther, Ironman, Pyro, Skrull, Magneto, Wolverine, Sabertooth, Red Skull, Cap'n America, Wendigo, Thing, Hulk, Venom, Spider-man, Bullseye, Johnny Storm, Mr Sinister, Whizzer... you get the idea. Maps: Avalon space-station, Savage Land, Automated Sentinel factory, Manhattan, Latveria, Weapon X labs. See fortunately many characters have very similar powers (at least in looks). I'm all for the easiest method to get a job done. Cyclops, Ironman, Iceman, Dr.Doom all shot some sort of beam. 3 of which from their hands (think about the force push but with a beam shooting from the hand instead). Red skull, Punisher, Deadpool and Skrull would all use guns ( plenty of those to reskin and reapply attributes). Storm and Magneto both could use the exsisting lightning or force drain coupled with the prolonged jedi force jump. For Captain America replace the saber with his shield. It can be thrown and automatically returns "how convenient!" Where it gets more tricky is dealing with characters who are more close combat styled liked Wolvie, Venom, Thing and such. I think brand new models would be needed either because of size and or to provide the proper fighting animations. In addition Spider-man and Venom would have to be able to cling to any surface and swing. I know, a lot of new animations and coding just for those 2 characters. This all making sense right? I mean the connections and similarities are there. No need to extra weapons on the maps. The characters' attributes will be set and all that would be needed is health and powe-ups. For those who don't use guns the force bar in the HUD could be converted into a power bar. Each character should have about 4 different attacks. Example: Cyclops eye beam could have a normal pulse fire, a bounce shot, a super blast and his hand to hand fighting. Anyone interested in this idea? I'm pretty good at mapping, having made several maps for MOHAA and I've been learning how to reskin the default models. I fall way short in the modelling and coding department though. If I get enough serious interest in this idea I'll really push forward and establish a staff. Reply back with your input.
Covax
Well... 1 - Some Moderator's going to move this to the Requests section unless you just want to discuss the 'theory' of such a mod. 2 - HONESTLY I'd like to see new characters. I know there's a buch of Marvel movies commin' up (and I'm gonna watch each and every one) but with unique 'super hero' characters would be a sign of originality, that way you can base them off of off what you can do, not hammer existing heroes into a game that wasn't desinged for them. (this from a guy who's making a Blade mod no less...) 3 - Failing number 2 don't limit it to just the Marvel Universe. There are other Comic heroes that have already been made (see the skin-pack at JK2Files). 4 - And Ghost Rider would kick all of those other character's asses... Wudan
There is a Quake3 Mod doing this already. There isn't enough interest in this inside JK2. If you don't already have a coder, it's most likely not going to happen. If you do get production rolling, congrats.
Lt. Havoc
wow what encouragement!!! Consider this, all great things are spawned from ideas and sometimes the seemingly impossiblest of an idea becomes true. Granted I don't have the knowledge to pull this off. I like that there is too little interest in JK community to even consider this. My range of tastes goes from comics, Sci-fi to military history. Evidently most Jedi Knight 2 players are happy within their world. Personally I love the game but wish it have more of a team orientation and specialization per character. In an age where MP games are moving toward larger team based maps JK2 mimics those DM maps from the original and UT. I'd love to see more emphasis on the other. I'd also like to see a full conversion mod based on LOTR as well as the superhero one I proposed. Fortunately both will be made in time as there will be MMORPG made for both in the coming years. As for using more original characters for a superhero game instead of hammering out the same popular ones well good news there too, City of Heroes will allow players to make their own characters but who wants to be a Wolverine wannabe? When was the last time an original character was made with out ANY similarities to someone else. With X-men for example nearly everyone is somehow related to someone else. Thanks for your guys input, better negative than nothing at all.
Wudan
Not to rip on it, but balance would be impossible to do, as well as the fact that it is not an original idea. Start modding small things, then work your way up. I agree, I dislike the supidity of the current jk2 player's attitude. - Not killing someone with saber down - for chrisssaake - his saber is down, he's begging to get whacked! Oh well, this is all turning to crap anyway
topshot
I think it's a great idea that you would want a mod like this done for Jedi Outcast. And if it's a great idea, and you know that you want it done, it's a good thing to hire a mod team that thinks the same idea. I personally love Marvel comics and movies and I think this could be a good thing.
