thats what i thought Neil, but then their is no tu or vous in n'est pas. But aren't you is good approximation i guess. But i think in certain citscumstances it means isn't it, or aren't they. Which is weird, cos they have loads of different verb things you have to learn, unlike english which is straight forwaord, then they have a phrase that stays the same whether it's we, them it or us etc. Confusing.

Btw, sidetracking a little here, is anyone here Italian, or speak Italian? I'm trying to learn it you see, as i'm travelling round Italy for a couple of weeks in the autumn.

n'est-ce pas literally means is it not:

est- is

ce- it

ne...pas- not

but it's meaning is isn't it if you're not talking about someone else, if you're talking about someone, it would mean aren't they or isn't he, etc.

it takes on multiple meanings.

sadly, the only thing i know in italian is ti amo, which means i love you (i think). i don't even know hello or goodbye.
