[MA]JediChewie
Im intrested in possibly setting up a dedicated server, and i have a fairly older mac that im in the process of upgrading, and what i was planning on buying for it would be above and beyond the requirements for running the game except for the video card. can anyone reccomend a lower end vid card(pci) that i could use that would be able to run the game, but wouldnt be the most expensive one out there? are there other programs that i would need if i were going to have it running as a dedicated server? something for web admin? thanks for any help/comments/etc
Bilbo Skywalker
i dunno about macs really, but the lowest card you need to run the game fairly well is a geforce 2 or 3, they are quite cheap now, umm i dont know what the mac equivelant is though. Andy867
Minimum requirements for hosting a dedicated server for even a mac can be pretty low you can probably use a g4 500Mhz rig with 128-512 RAM and even a cheapo video card since Dedicated servers only do the calculations and NO graphical rendering. A GeForce3 should work, especially if you get it off ebay for a good price. Just make sure to get the right drivers for the mac.
[MA]JediChewie
thanks for the replys this is the computer i bought earlier this year, and i already have 300+ mb of memory in it (it came with 34, i bought 256), im putting a 9 gb hard drive in it, and im planning on upgrading the processing anywhere from 500 mhz to 800. do you think a g3 would work, or would i have to go for the altivecness of the g4? (i use a nice g4 as my gaming rig, its just im not sure if the price diff is worth it if the old comp isnt going to be my main rig or anything) anyways, thanks for the info. . ill try and inform you all of how it works out
masterabensett
i recently set up a t3/cable modem in my house and I want to serve games on the internet. i click on create server, set up the game, but I don't think that anyone can see the game on the internet. in the about tab, it says local host. does that mean that it can only be seen locally? HELP!! I WANT TO HOST A GAME!!!
Andy867
Master, are you behind a firewall or using a router for your networking. If so, there could be some issues you would need to get resolved before being able to host a game on the net. And for a server rig, you really only need a G3 if THAT to run it. If anything, you could even pop in an old PCI card and it would work fine if all its going to do is be a JO dedicated server.
masterabensett
My firewall allows the JKII to act as a server(i think). I have Zone Alarm Pro, and while booting up JKII it asked if it can be allowed as a server and I hit yes. I can join games, but I don't think anyone sees my games. I maybe repeating myself but I am just frustrated. What do you think?
BigTeddyPaul
MY experience: Before I was able to make a dedicated server made servers that did not broadcast to other master lists so no one could see my game was up. However, I gave the people in my clan my IP address and they could then locate my game and enter. If you want to make a game where you want specific people to join you could do this. Of course sometimes firewalls do not let them in unless you fix that. MY experience and it might not be the answer for you. BigTeddyPaul
masterabensett
how do i find out my IP address for me to distibute? The "master lists" you speak of, is it a part of raven? Do you have to subscribe? I was thinking maybe that was the reason why, if that was the case. Just wondering....
Andy867
No, the Master Servers are what Jedi Outcast automatically try to connect to for other people to host and join games. But to figure out your ip address do this: Click the start button click the run button and type cmd or click the MS-DOS Prompt type ipconfig look for it says IP Address and write down the numbers which will read like 92.24.56.113 You might want to try turning off ZoneAlarm just for the time that you are playing and then re-enable it when you stop playing Jedi Outcast online. Just an Idea.
