Pax Romana Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Once you choose a server can your character ever play on other servers? Are we limited to playing on the server that we begin on? Can we conduct business from one server to the next by simply logging on to whatever server we choose? Thanks for replying to a seemingly stupid question. I am new and learning and want to be ready when SWG arrives at my doorstep.

exizzt Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 It would be nice if you could switch servers. Although usually with most MMORPG games, the characters are stored on the server. So if you wanted to be able to switch servers, the characters would have to be stored on your computer. I think that's how it works.. (??)

And it will be permanently, until you hoose to move again. But it's a costly afare, and I doubt you can do it all the time. As you play, you will be confined to the server you have chosen for that character. You can, however, have up to 10 different characters on one account, dispersed on 10 different servers. But never 2 or more on the same (Jedi character an exception).

Just look at Diablo II. Now, this reason alone beats all the "it would be nice if..." reasons, don't you think? EDIT: and yes, you most definately can change servers, tavis. But only if that also means you change to the other character that you made for that other server.

They're trying to make it seem perfect. And like set said, easier to cheat if the files aren't server held.

In the real Star Wars moveis during the Galactic Senate and everything, it was impossible for beings to move from one galaxy to another. Maybe this is why the devs made it so that you cannot move characters from one server to another... Yea lol

Hehe j/k, but I have some counterarguments for that theory: Well, first, in the timeframe of SWG, the senate does not exist anymore. Remember Palpatine wrapping the last of it up in the very beginning of A New Hope? Good. And the different servers, though named galaxies, has nothing with inter-galaxy travel to do. They are parallell galaxies, and even though I'm not an expert on SW EU, I doubt they do a lot if interdimensional travel, that sounds more like Star Trek.

What my point is though, the way I see it is that, in that timeframe since intergalactic travel was impossible and since servers are like different "Galaxies" in a sense, you can't move your character from one server to another.
