A director also gives the feeling of the words and the way an actor should portray the character. The point is he decides what's good and what's not. How many times to shoot a scene and tells the actor how he wants it done. It seems that he doesn't think much about the acting but shoots ffor 2 or so months just so he can get in the editing booth and fix everything there.
