Why do I get a choppy frame-rate with JKII?

I've got a P4 1.8 GHz, 512MB DDR RAM and a GF2 Ti (64MB), and from what I hear, that should be adequate to run JKII single-player at a reasonable frame-rate.

However, gameplay gets intolerably slow during action sequences with a lot of enemies. This is when I've got the resolution set to 1024x768, and all other video options are on their highest setting (lowering them doesn't seem to make much difference at all for me)

What are the possible causes for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but playing JK2 with all details up on that resolution with a GF2 TI is not possible. All the textures take up more that the 64 MB's on your vid-card so they need to be compressed etc. This takes up time & performance.

On my current rig I'm playing on 800X600 with all details up. Framerate low 120 & high around 300 with a TI4600/Athlon XP 2400+/1024 DDR 333Mhz. I would take FPS above visuals anyday to insure a totally buttery smooth gameplay experience. And I don't thin it's possible on your rig with the settings you use. Had a similar system before with almost the same specs/ratings. Wouldn't get above 90 FPS after some serious tweaking.

(although I'm a new member here I had the game since release. JK2 rocks, just started with it again)

you access the console (Shift and ~ pressed together) and then you type in

seta com_MAXFPS 120 is usually a good number, depending upon the video card and video memory.

Also, try upping your HunkMeg settings Jedi by typing at the console

seta com_HUNKMEGS 256 /// The formula is usually seta com_HUNKMEGS x/2 whereas X equals the total system memory divided by two.

Also Jedi, try lowering your resolution down to 800x600, and kick the video details down to medium, and the video sync off, as well as anti-aliasing, and make the trilinear buffering be bilinear. that should help with performance... Also, try defragging your computer, and running the Disk Cleanup Wizard, and regcleaner to get rid of any old registry entries (they take up some system resources which over time, can reduce system performance)
