I've noticed for different maps, such as matrix sparring program (the dojo one) and the DKrs map ( I think thats the name, its reallllly chromey), there is a lighting effect.

 

This effect looks like a block that you can pass through and fades out on one side to look like light coming through a window or from a light source. I can't figure it out, but it looks kick azz! Can someone help me with this?

 

ALSO! I noticed in some maps (such as yavinrpg map) there are some brushes you can just pass through (but you won't see one side of it). Is this because of nodraw? And how would I utilize nodraw to get this to work on a brush of mine? Thanks!

 

PS. Is there a possible way to make a brush that I can just pass through while having both sides look normal? Maybe facing two brushes to each other and texturing the sides facing each other nodraw? Anyways thanks!:0

I haven't tried yet but I'm sure it'll help:) But also in some maps they have this effect so that it looks like blue or red light! would I just put a red light source by the beam shader? Also would I need to make this brush with beam shader on it a detail brush? THANKS:)
