rgoer
Ok, ok, I know what you guys are going to say: "it's your own fault for trying to do something this complicated." However, I really don't want to compromise my architectural vision for ease-of-construction; that means I need to work out a decent method for getting 3-way radial symmetry that doesn't result in z-fighting, vertex mis-alignment, or non-congruent brush sizes. My current method involves constructing one "group" of elements, then duplicating that "group" twice and rotating the duplicates 120° and 240°, respectively. It's the next part where I start running into trouble. Radiant (any version, it seems--I've tried this in JK2Rad as well as Gtk) seems to be perfectly fine with brush/curve vertexes ending up at a non-gridplane set of coordinates (say, due to a brush "arbitrary" rotation of any amount other than 90°); what I can't figure out is how to convince Radiant to allow me to move a vertex back onto the construction grid. I suppose my question can be boiled down to this: is there any way to disable "snap to grid" in Radiant? Aside from that, can you guys think of any suggestions for making an easier job of creating 3-way radial symmetry (besides "give up on it alltogether")? wedge2211
You could always try for a close approximation of three-way symmetry, instead of exact symmetry. Just clip the brushes manually (don't rotate them) so that they LOOK to the eye as if they are at 0-120-240 angles, but they don't have to really be at those angles. Otherwise, you pretty much have to build them in their final form and rotate them into place at the very end.
rgoer
That's what I figured... so there is no way (that anybody knows of) to disable "snap-to-grid" in Radiant?
Leslie Judge
In GtkRadiant you can disable it in the Grid menu.
rgoer
Well, I'll be damned; i r dumbass. Thanks for whacking me with the obvious stick, LJ, I seemed to have needed that.
