Mark_C
Hi, I did a quick search in google for an adventure game forum and found myself here, hopefully this question is appropriate here? :-) I'm stuck in Operation Stealth, yes that oldie from many many years ago. I loved it on the Amiga several years ago but when i got frustrated with that dreaded rat maze i never touched the game again. I began playing it again through the Amiga WinUAE emulator, battling my way through those annoying arcade sequences and infuriating mazes but now i'm stuck. I'm onboard the enemy submarine after the rat maze and i'm up to the point where i need to steal a stamp from an officer's table while he's drinking water. But the problem is, no matter how quick i am or where i position my character he always catches me and sends me through the trapdoor. Hopefully not everyone is scratching their head wondering what game Operation Stealth is, or i'll never see what happens at the end. :-) Mark
SamandMax
This is the quote I got from Gamefaqs: "When you get into this room, there will be an officer. If you look carefully, you will see a stamp on his desk. Stand next to it. Use glass on officer. When his back is turned, take the stamp on his desk and exit the room." Here's the rest of the walkthrough if you need it:http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/amiga/file/operation_stealth.txt
Mark_C
Hi SamandMax, Thanks for the help. I've tried it many times and i've read a few walkthroughs but he still catches me every time. Maybe it's one of those old forms of copy protection where it won't allow to pass a certain part of the game. ;-) Mark
ragou
Unfortunately I never got that long when I played it many, many years ago. I got stuck earlier. I couldn't even go through it with the help from walkthroughs.
DomStLeger
I love Operation Stealth! (Haven't played it in ages though, but also played it on the amiga. I remember it took me ages to pass that diving arcade sequence earlier in the game ). I can't remember clearly, but it sounds like you're doing the right things. Maybe the game is running too fast? Have you tried slowing the game down using something like Turbo or MoSlo before running the emulator? I've never tried it myself (though I do useWinUAE) but it might be worth a try. Also, it might be worth having a go with Fellow (the other Amiga emulator). For those who haven't heard of Operation Stealth, its a very good and underated spy AG from french developers Delphine, who also produced the tremendous Cruise for a Corpse and the (imo) medicore Future Wars. Check them out if you can
ragou
Yes, Delphine is definitely one of the most underrated AG developers (although they don't do AG:s anymore).
Mark_C
Hi all, Hopefully this will work - i've uploaded a file containing WinUAE and all the files required for Operation Stealth. I've also included my current save states so you can try this bit i'm stuck on too. You can download it here: (5.78mb) http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~mac/temp/WinUAE-OperationStealth.exe You need to unpack it to "C:\Program Files" because the configuration i've included points to files in that directory. (You should end up with "C:\Program Files\WinUAE-OperationStealth") Open up the folder and double-click winuae.exe. Now double-click "Operation Stealth" in the configurations menu and the game should start loading from disk 1. (Choosing pink at the copy protection screen should bypass it.) You can press F12 to bring up the WinUAE menu. Hopefully my configuration works well on your computers, but if not you'll probably need to do some tweaking in the menus. You can choose full screen by clicking on the "Display" tab and selecting Full Screen. To change disks, click on the "Floppies" tab and the small box next to the disk name to browse. I've included my save games, but they're not on a formatted floppy disk. I've used the Save State option through WinUAE, to load up any of my save states you'll need to click on the "Misc" tab and click "Load state". Save state number 21 is where i'm stuck at... knowing my luck you'll probably pass it on your first attempt. ;-) Right click in the game brings up your command menu. Right clicking again on a command means you'll use the command on something in your inventory, and left clicking on a command means you'll apply it to something in the room. You'll want to "use" the "full glass" on the officer, and then "take" the "stamp" on the table. (And then fall to your doom.) On the other hand you might not want to spoil the game and just play from the start. It's one of my favourite adventures and i'd recommend doing so if you have the time - but i consider it one of the more difficult adventures around, especially with those infuriating actions sequences. Load up save state 14 to see what bit made me give up on the game for the last several years. ;-) Mark
Mark_C
I've just noticed that loading up a save state will also restore where i originally had the disks on my computer, so you'll need to press F12, click "Floppies" and browse to the correct disk which will be in the folder "ADF Files". DomStLeger
Ok I downloaded your file and and had a go. I can grab the stamp but then he notices straight after he's finished his drink, are you supposed to sprint for the exit? If so I think the game is running too fast. I'll try it with fellow (the dos based emulator) and moslo.
Mark_C
Great, just completed it with the help from Patrik T! :-) I think i did things in the incorrect order which probably triggered a bug in the game. I've finally seen the ending - more than 10 years later since i first played the game on my Amiga. I think this game is near impossible to complete without the aid of a walkthrough. For example, at the very end you need an elastic band to solve the final puzzle, but if you didn't search through every pixel during an arcade underwater sequence which was half-way through the game you'd never have found it. The giant rat/demon spider monsters in the mazes are bizarre too. ;-) Time to put this game to rest, maybe i can start on the other Delpine adventure game Future Wars now. ;-) Many thanks to all that helped, Mark
Mark_C
To Patrik T, could you resend the last email you sent me, i just lost most of my things through a hard drive failure. :-( Thanks, Mark
