DigitalVapor
I have been trying for almost a year to get the !@#$ camera effect to work. I finaly got it to work by: 1)placing the brush so that the caulked back side of the portal brush is touching the void. 2)The front viewing surface is textured with system/mirror_yavin. 3)The misc_portal_surface is placed so that the center of the little cube is exactly 64 units away from the surface. 4)It is targeted to the misc_portal_camera and that is targeted to the target_position. This seems to be THE ONLY way to get the camera to work. THE PROBLEM IS....This method causes a leak in the map AND I need the camera portal to be in the middle of the room. Oh and of course the camera is also SIDEWAYS. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO GET THE CAMERA TO WORK WITHOUT IT TOUCHING THE VOID???? PLEASE I AM BEGGING HERE!! Business_Eskimo
First, are you sire that the portal surface is a detail brush? You can actually put the misc_portal_surface so it touches the brush. I'd give it a try.
DigitalVapor
I have checked it and rechecked it. Everything is set the way it should be, and yes, I now have the misc_portal_surface touching the brush. I have once again given up on this effect since the severe level of framerate drop and lag it caused even if you were in another room and looked in the portal's direction...It just wasnt worth it. I was getting like 16 fps in the room below and to the right of the portal every time I looked in the direction of thhe portal. I gave up. not worth it. I instead decided to go with an alarm system instead. Now when the enemy passes where I need them to be, It sets off an alarm in my control room along with blinking red fx_runner lights. Then I just hit controls and have a laugh.
RoxStar
You could try changing the angle that the camera faces in the enity properties like you do in info_player_start.
Business_Eskimo
Have you areaportalled (not a word ) the doors in the room with the portal? It should help with the FPS in the other rooms.
Lil Killa
how about just sticking a new caulk brush behind the brush that acts as your camera? thx bunch i have been wanting to know how to do a camera for ages. I hope what i said works but i don't see why it wouldn't just make sure u cover the whol back of the brush (mabe even overlap the edges. don't fprget that small spot where the floor meets the wall if your camera thing goes that low cause then the first brush u placed would be for nothing. if u need an example pm me and we'll work something out:D
