DracoFXB
This is what I said in a thread at another forum: The only downfall KOTOR has is its long delay You might believe that a long delay will only make the game better, yes that is true but thats not the bad part. The thing is the expectations for the game will he higher then it was a year ago when it was supposed to be released Fall 2002, then delayed to January 2003, the Feb 2003, then Spring 2003, then June 2003, and now July 16th 2003. Now with all these delays the consumer (Including myself) will be expecting a lot from the game for the fact that it was delayed numerous times and should be worth it. Because they kept delaying it to work on it so we shouldn't experience too much problems, well thats what many will think. So when there is those little problems that could be bad. The thing is, the consumers (including me) will probably be expecting too much from the game because of its many delays. Now a gamer like me will be expecting more from KOTOR whereas if it were to be released during it's original date of Fall 2002, there won't be too much high expectations, just a solid SW RPG title on the Xbox. So I believe that could back-fire on KOTOR and when the reviews come out, we may see that. Its sort of like having to kids both boys. You have one that is 8 and the other that is 17. You would expect more out of the 17 year old because he is the oldest where as the 8 year old is the little one and may not no any better at times. Thats what I'm saying with KOTOR, maybe the reviewers and consumers would be too strict on the game cause they say "Hell, this game was delayed for almost a whole year, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it". This is a scary thing Bioware has on them. What are your thoughs? Debate away!
covenant_bad
I think you make a good point there. KOTOR was shown at E3 and that hugely built up the anticipation for the game and increased its fanbase. However, (like u said) there will be a huge expectation as the first "authentic" star wars rpg plus the fact that its made by Bioware will have detrimental effect on peoples expectations and may inevitably fall short of the fantastical ideas people have about it... just a thought

IMO I don't care if it's perfect, I don't expect it to be perfect I expect a nice Star Wars RPG, and thats what I'm goina get.
Hannibal
... The thing is the expectations for the game will he higher then it was a year ago when it was supposed to be released Fall 2002, then delayed to January 2003, the Feb 2003, then Spring 2003, then June 2003, and now July 16th 2003... The downfall for Bioware will be miss information. The delays this guy posted are wrong. Actually it was Fall 02, Spring 03(June 03-still Spring), and then July 03. That's 2 delays, one narrow down(Spring to June) and one more actual date coming up. All those Jan, FEb dates were sites trying to get people to pre-order the game. Bioware and LucasArts never said those months. Take it from someone who went to the chats after the first delay and asked about those months. Bioware constantly said that Jan and Feb were not actual months. We begged them for Jan and Feb. So if Bioware gets a bad rep it will be through no fault of their own. It's all on over eager sites putting up dates that Bioware never released.
Taos
If the game is good, it's not going to matter how many times it was delayed. Sure, those that whined about not getting it earlier might not get it right away, but they'll buy it.........it just might not be til a week or two after release. Burrie
I personally expect the few delays to work into Bioware's favor rather than back-fire. Now that they've managed to work out everything in the game, the players will receive an overall developed RPG, rathern than a rush-rush job. Burrie
I detest that, Uber_Saber... Starfighter wasn't THAT bad a game.
Uber_Saber
You're right, Burrie. There were a couple of decent games that did slip through. But for the most part they were slap-dash quickly made games that had to be released far too early in order to ride the hype of TPM. There were so decent, or even sometimes, good games that got put out in that group of games. But at least with this game, I've got no worries about a buggy and/or ridiculous control scheme and/or completely unengaging plot. I can be sure of an exceptional game. Burrie
You've got a point, the games often were decent. Like the earlier cited StarFighter, that was a fairly decent shooter. I bought it last year, and often play it a few times for its entertainment value(the Eye of the Storm is incredible), but it's simply no big smash-hit like X-Wing, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Alliance and various other non-PT titles were. The PT titles will probably only be remembered as decent games, nothing ground-breaking or memorable. Quite frankly, I expect that Knights of the Old Republic will leave quite a mark on Star Wars. I'll be looking forward to it.
StarScream423
Recently Lucasarts have been developing/publishing very good games, and people are once again putting their faith into them to develop good games. With the development of the next Full Throttle and Sam 'N Max games, Lucasarts has proven once again that it doesn't only make SW games. KotOR will prove to all the naysayers that Lucasarts is a great developer who can compete with the other big name developers. Also, thanks to the scope of Star Wars and its vast fanbase, BioWare is revealing itself to a very large audience, which will be very good for them as well. In the end, the delays will be worth it, and both BioWare and Lucasarts will come out stronger, and all the other developers will see this too. Burrie
Agreed, StarScream... Lucasarts became rather stuck at some point(around Episode I), but it has begun to climb back to the top. I remember thinking when I saw the E3 trailer from either one or two years ago(where the main theme was "Next Generation") where they showed various games which are close to release or are released (Bounty Hunter, RTX Red Rock, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, Gladius, Knights of the Old Republic, Full Throttle 2, Clone Wars), I remember thinking "Lucasarts is back!". Frosty_V2.1
Don't forget "Secret Weapons Over Normandy", the design lead is none other than Lawrence Holland, one of the main men behind X-Wing and Tie Fighter
