flaknugget Posted July 8, 2003 Share Posted July 8, 2003 Hi again, I've been nickle-and-diming my way up the Scouting profession tree by killing tiny critters and harvesting their drops, but no more. I was reading from the official forums yesterday that scouts generate Xp from successfully using their mask scent ability on agressive creatures. I never tried that before. So I bought a return ticket to Lok to try out this new scouting method on the many large agressive creature there and, well... it was solid gold. All you have to do is mask your scent and approach swarms of beasts. You will gain Xp for each creature that fails to notice your presence. So if you were to walk across a group of 5 creatures, and 2 of them notice you, you still get Xp from the ones that didn't. The Xp rewards range from 30-230 depending on the creature. So before you go to lok, make sure you buy a return ticket, because Lok is not a planet you want to get stuck on. Second, I would recommend you deposite any items you want to hold onto in a bank terminal somewhere. But then again, with the safety still in place on dying, you may not need to. All I'm saying is there is a good chance you'll die out there, and recovering your body won't be easy. So take whatever precautions to solve that, that you're willing to. Once you're naked and on Lok like I was yeserday, make sure you have 'mask scent' placed as a quick-key, you'll use it a lot. And head out into the wild. I found the denser population of creatures are in the northern regions, within 10km of the outpost there. Outside of that creatures get pretty sparse, and the Xp doesn't roll in quite as easily. And that's all there is to it. Now this is very important... even though 'mask scent' is a skill learned at explore level 2, I wouldn't recommend doing this until you have at least explore 3. Bothans may be able to do it at level 2 because of their natural camo bonus. I went to Lok with just Explore 3, and I had fairly low success masking my scent, maybe 30% success. But even then it only took me 30 minutes to collect the 5,000 Xp I needed for Explore 4. Once I had explore 4 my success increased to around 70%. After that it took me only 2 hours to go from the bottom of explore 4, to a full novice creature handler skill bar, that is 32500 scout Xp in 2 hours. If someone knows a better way let me know. Murashu Posted July 8, 2003 Share Posted July 8, 2003 Ocyrus told me about this the other day so I thought I would try it out. Mask scent is totally useless at lvl 2. I have clicked it thousands of times and it fails to give any reward. I go inside the Narglatch caves which is filled with nothing but agressives and I get nothing. ocYrus Posted July 8, 2003 Share Posted July 8, 2003 mask scent does not succsefully work at level 2, the fastest way to get your scouting xp is to work ur way up explorer, then when u get to three, get mask explorer 4, then work your way up hunting, dont worry about hunting untill you have explorer 4 ipromise it will go by faster, then just goto the caves on naboo and u get al the way to hunting 4 in 2 hours, i promise. I didn't browse around the outpost much when I was on Lok. It is a truely unpleasant place. I went there, did what I needed to do, and left. So what did I miss out on there? Taos Posted July 9, 2003 Share Posted July 9, 2003 Yeah the devs changed this now........if you get "detected" by some creatures, you now have a 60 second delay before you can use mask scent again. This sucks too, I just went to Lok last night and it definitely helped the scout xp. Oh well, guess I'll just have to do it the old fashoned way.
